I think you've made the right decision on the 10-20 vs 8-16, all you need to do now is decide if you're keeping the DA:

Hi Simon, thanks. I think the 8-16 is definitely off, especially considering the sample variation issues I'm likely to encounter, better the devil you know.......

I lusted after the DA for so long, I love the build, diminutive size, 49mm filter thread, DoF scale etc. It'd be a tough call to let it go, I think I need to get out and use it more

But the 15mm seems to have a nicer clarity overall, less fall off perhaps, and (to me) more natural colour.
Yes, I think the Sigma vignetting is a little heavier, but easily correctable in PP, I'd concur with the more natural but perhaps cooler colour of the DA-15. I'm glad I did he comparison it was a bit of an eye opener for me.

What is the best way getting there? I am from London and I don;t drive.
Hi Geo,

Rail would probably be the most direct route for you to Warrington Bank Quay station, the site is about fifteen minuets away from there by road.
I'm sure one of us could arrange to collect you from the station and organise the return run.

The Sigma seems a little warmer rendering colour, in particular the grey of the path, personally I don't mind that. All images were jpg's straight from the camera WB was on daylight, RAW would give me more control over the colour temperature. As the DA-15 Ltd is relatively new to me I think I may try micro adjust on the focus to see if there's any improvement to be had, it's one of the few prime lenses I haven't checked.

I've re-read the Photozone review of the Sigma 8-16, apparently they tried 4 samples before finding one that didn't have a centering defect

So in conclusion I think the Sigma 10-20 is a definite keeper, I think I need to get out and use the DA-15 Ltd more before coming to a decision whether to keep it or not.

Thanks for all the imput.

Regards,

John

Count me in Cliff, provisionally, prefer Sunday but can work around Saturday if required.

Well the 15mm seems to give a little more contrast but the Sigma looks sharper to me. Overall there doesn't seem to be much in it at all.
I'd concur with that, I also notice I have dust on the sensor The Sigma is a little sharper at the edge in particular with less CA

Well I couldn't wait so off to the local park, nice evening if a little breezy, test shots all hand held f/9, nothing very scientific:

Pick the Siggy without using the EXIF?
