I have been using my DA* 16mm to 50mm for well over a year now and love it, I really don't notice any issues with this lens that people raise, so either I have a very good copy or i just have learned how to use it!
Gareth
+1 and the Tamron 17-50 has quite pronounced field curvature IIRC which I can't abide, I had the 17-35 and disliked it with a passion. The 28-75 on the other hand was an absolute gem.

Bought a FA-35/2 a few years back from B&H and saved quite a bit even after paying taxes, import duty etc.

Thanks for a very useful comparison John. And let me know if you ever do decide to sell the 15mm...
Not very thorough unfortunately, just a couple of quick snaps. I'm hopimg to do a micro-adjust on the DA's focus to see if anything can be gained but I doubt it due to the large DoF. The DA-15 may be up for sale yet.

So, reading that, it seems that the motor just jams.

A brave owner could try applying a slightly higher voltage to get it turning again. We need a tame Pentax technician to tell us what contacts to short circuit.

PS: Glad it worked for you, John. A business opportunity perhaps?
Thanks George, basically I got the lens out to have another look with the repair procedure in mind. I put it on the K20D to check it was dead and it wouldn't AF, after playing with the lens in manual (Quick shift) a few times it suddenly came to life, a little slow to focus at first but then gradually back to normal, I need to try it again when I'm home from work just to check it's still working, maybe it needs an outing.

Canon cameras are useful....I find that Canons are great for camping trips... You need something to hammer in those tent pegs with. Just put some waterproof matches in the film chamber, a couple bandaides, some water purification tablets in the battery compartment and an old AE-1 becomes a useful hammer/rock/survival kit that makes you look like a pro photographer

as for the toy lens... a sheet of saran plastic wrap over any lens....

£70 not too bad I was thinking twice that, my DA*200 expired a few months back I know it doesn't happen to the DA*200's
Who repaired it if you don't mind me asking.
