Hi folks,

A couple of quick pics of my EI-2000 (Flickr seems to have mangled the JPEGs a bit - something I need to work on).

The problem with searching the web for reported problems is that generally only those with a problem mention that they have a problem. Very quickly rumours run wild with people conidering buying something prefacing their posts with "I'm looking at buying xxxxx from yyyyy but the web is full reports of problems..." which only adds to the Google search results. Also there's a lot of sites that scrape content off other sites with all appear as a 'problem-fest' in Google.

Very few satisfied owners will bother to post "My lens is great, always works, no problems."

Reviews are also two-appenny with millions of them available on the net and YouTube as more people want to have their say. Without knowing the skills of the reviewer it is very difficult to know how reliable they are.

It does however highlight the benefits you get buy buying gear from a dealer who can easily provide waranty support.

For me it depends how important using the Tamron on another system would be, or which mount(s) you have for it. For a DSLR a 'KA' mount is preferable but I also have the 'KM' mount which repeats the aperture scale in the right place to show up in the finder of an MX/LX.

The Pentax will focus the same way as the other Pentax's (the Tamron probably goes the other way).

Depends also on the value you can get for them, I've sold a lot of gear in the past and often paid substaintially more to buy another one back.

I'd prefer the Pentax on Pentax camera, but then my M 28/2.8 focus ring jammed yesterday...

Hi All,

Today my M 28/2.8 developed a clicking noise from the focus barrel at a particular point, this then got worse to the point where it is now jammed (I don't want to force it). It seemed to be fine yesterday.

I've read a comment suggesting it might be a bearing, any help appreciated.

John.

Algernon - probably why they later went for the moving film plane AF system. I'm surprised their 645 didn't survive though, being a new system and all.

It doesn't appear to have the Ricoh Kr connection which suggests it's really old (I can't think of a reason why they'd omit it). As sorted mentioned it'd probably foul the pentaprism of my K-5 (do all Pentax DSLR prisms overhang the mount?), but might fit the 'M' cameras whose prisms are flush with the mount (my Super-A overhangs slightly).

I seem to remember somebody (Cosina perhaps?) made some AF lenses which would work on a manual focus body, but that was some form of zoom IIRC?

Having seen the two 'windows' on the front it looks like it used IR to focus like most of the the 35mm compacts.

screwdriver - yes I'll try some new batteries, tried your other suggestions.

john - thanks, the metering appears to run consistently (haven't checked it's calibration) and as long as this is separate from the AF electronics, it should be OK. I look forward to shooting with it.

I was interested to note the shutter will fire at 1/125th and B without batteries (must be the only AF camera capable of that!).

Spaceman - I think you can minimise it, but only by reducing the accuracy of the split-image. If I remember correctly pro SLRs used to offer different screens for different light levels but with reduced focus accuracy (unless I'm mistaking the micro-prism ring around the split-image)?

Sounds to me like the one's who will only cover the whole day are reading 10yr old copies of Amateur Photographer or Practical Photography.

I'd have thought any proper photographer, faced with a comment that only the ceremony and reception were required, would have offered to shoot the whole day anyway, confident that their creativity would deliver increased sales after the event.

Then again I've been informed by various wedding pro's that they're the only 'licensed' photographer for the day, and that I shouldn't be shooting my friends in the vintage car they paid for outside the church they also paid for...

I always wanted a split focussing screen for my Z-1 (I think Beatie? may have made one?). Part of the problem is that they become pointless with the modern 'slow' zoom lenses often offered in kits. Once you get beyond f/4, blackout of at least one half of of the split-image is almost a given.
