Now that I've got it, mine is the DA 17-70, but I'm still reluctant to leave my F50/1.7 at home.

I remember in the '90s that beanbags were very popular, although you'd need a convenient rock/fence post to make it work most of the time.

I'd be very surprised if you could upload the software for the wrong camera. The download would almost certainly be tagged with the camera type and a different camera should reject the 'wrong' software.

It's basically a software license issue, by owning a K-5 you are entitled to use the software including the upgrades. If you don't, you're not (although the benefit you'll get is pretty much zero).

I've just bought the 17-70, my first DA or SDM lens, I can't compare it to the others. I really needed something wider than my FA 28-80 for my K-5. I did briefly consider the 16-50 but the extra 20mm fits my lens coverage (not to mention budget) better. First impressions are very good (and a massive improvement over the FA lens).

I use filters on all my lenses, primarily to protect the lens coating from the cleaning it would otherwise require. Before 'digital filters' were an option, optical filters were necessary for many different effects and lenses shouldn't be affected significantly when quality filters are fitted.

Manufacture tolerances of individual lenses and cameras are going to have a far greater effect than a decent filter.

The Sky-Watcher right angle mentioned is for telescopes by the look of it. Any coment referring to connecting it to a camera would be in place of the camera lens, not the finder.

I had to make do with a naked focussing screen on my LX

The shutter firing on frame advance suggests the shutter release is 'activated' when you wind on (as the shutter re-cocks it would then re-fire). Why this would be the case with only one lense, I don't know, the mount shouldn't affect it. I can't think of any connection in the mount which would affect the shooting sequence?

It's a 2.2MP bridge camera with reflex viewing circa 2000. It handled very similar to the MZ series of cameras (and is about the same size). I never managed to work out how the finder worked (was optical but blacked out when the camera was off).
