That sounds easy enough, thanks John. Can I just ask would it be OK to save it it My Pictures folder? Or should I create a special folder? Now when I back up my images will it save them all twice? See I am not really sure what this catalouge is/does? What am I gaining by doing this?

Again, many thanks

Just make sure that your Organizer catalogue is stored within the photo folder.

At least in PSE6 you can select the catalogue location under File/Catalog. I assume the same goes for PSE7.

How would I do this, sorry for my ignorance

I am using Elements7 and ever so often, when prompted, I do an incremental back up to DVD. When I check the DVD'd to see they have copied I notice all my images are there but all as single images i.e not in folders anymore. Can someone tell me if this is how it always backs up or can I alter things to keep my photos in their origanl folders, otherwise I end up with a load of images with just a number and file format for identification, e.g 2435jpg, 2354PEF etc.. Also even though I am using RW discs it never seems to let me add images to the previous dusc even though I suspect there is room.

I am also just trying to get to grips with Raw. Can someone explain what is the differnce between PEF files, which is the raw files that my camera captures, and the DNG files you talk about?

At the moment I edit my raw files and save as Tiff files but reading above this is possibly not the best use of space if Tiffs are larger than the raw files. Perhaps I would be better just keeping the raw files and converting to Tiffs if and when I wish to print?

If I were to put some images on a web portfolio would JPEG be the best format to use?

Also not sure what the PSD files are.

I am using Elements 7 and my camera is a K200D. Finally do I need to keep checking for downloads, as above someone mentioned downloading an update to the raw converter?

Cheers

Lovely images of the Lakes, I spent the first 30 years of my life in Milnthorpe so know the area very well. Also use to spend the odd Thursday in Ulverston sampling the Hartley best in the days when the pubs used to have closing times. I sem to remember Thursdays was market day and the pubs were open all day!

Living up in Inverness now and I am also thinking of a web site for my images so if you can offer any help and advice on how to get started it would be most welcome.

Cheers

Can you reccomend this quickgamma for a lap top monitor? I am afraid I am not very technical minded when it comes to PC stuff, would I find it difficult to use this programme? Is there a chance I could screw my monitor up using this? Is there any idiot proof instructions to follow that would tell me what to do?

Is there any reason why HP ink jet printers rarely get a mention when there is talk of which printers to buy? I have an HP photosmart 8250 which seems tp produce good prints on HP top quality paper. I have never tried other printers and was just wondering if I am missing out on soemthing here. Are Epson and Canon really the mutts nuts when it comes to printers?

I guess my problem is associated with this. I have been trying to print some of my images on to A5 card. I am usually happy with the prints from my printer but when I print them on card they tend to look dull and lack punch. Is this what you would expect or should I be using a certain type of card? Or perhaps it would be better to print out on to 5x3 paper and then stick to card?

I also occasionally enter prints to my local camera club and was wondering what suggestions you may have for mounting. At the moment I am simply fixing my A4 image to a bigger piece of mounting board by double sided tape. I would like to know if anyone can suggest a way to mount prints so that they can be taken of the mounts afterwards and the mounts used again for my next print, otherwise I am just going to end up with lots of mounted A4 prints lying around when I do not really have the room.
