This explains it quite well.

Thanks for the link, it's made it much clearer.

I've been put to shame by Dan's goldfinch. What a wonderful image, as you say iceblinker a great testament to the lens and to Dan's photography.

A bit off your posted topic Howard, but your image is a bit noisy, and would benefit from a little cleaning up, have you tried "Neat Image" ?
the software is available free but with a few restrictions unless you take the option to purchase. It works great even in the freebie mode.

I was aware that the crop was noisy, but is the original noisy as well? I'll give "Neat Image" a try. Another one for the armoury.

Cheers,

Howard

There is frequent talk on here of cropping, which I understand and do on most of my images. Sometimes, however, there is mention of a 100% crop, what does this mean? To my mind if you do a 100% crop you end up with nothing!! I think I must be missing something, as I do frequently, am I::

Also is there a rule of thumb as to how much one should crop? Or is it personal preference? I have found that too heavy a crop produces a noisy image as in going from this

I like a good stained glass window and these are very good, I like nos. 2 and and 3 especially. I hope your tutor is pleased with you, he should be.

Thank you all for your kind comments about my second effort, I will try and remember all your tips and suggestions.

I use PSE6 for my panoramas. It does a good job on the whole. Much better than PSE4 used to.

Must revisit my motherland one of these years.
Don't you mean "fatherland" as in "Hen wlad fy nhadau"

I didn't know I could do panoramas with PSE, can you with PSE7?

Thanks,

Howard

Thanks Gwyn, I'll have to remember that tip when I next try a panorama. I'm quite impressed with this "ICE" software, especially since its a freebie, what do other people use to do panoramas?

Is this what you meant and is it any better? I found another image I'd taken (my memory getting worse!).

Thanks Stephen and Mat for your comments, I agree it is a pity that I did not turn further to my left. Next time I get an opportunity I'll have to do it again.

If you're interested and don't know it Microsoft ICE is a freebie and seems to work very well - to my inexpert eyes anyway.

Thanks,

Howard

Whilst in Holyhead, Anglesey yesterday I had a rare opportunity to have a short walk. Whilst there I thought I'd have a go at a panorama. This is my effort, stitched together using Microsoft ICE. I don't undertand where the flare comes from as I had a hood on the 16-45 I was using. Should I have done better? The short answer is probably a resounding yes!!

But not for me - too nice/photogenic to eat! A visitor in our garden this morning. It's almost tame.

This was from a week or so ago when it was on the fence near our kitchen door.

I'd say no as well. I have Cobra D500 and I can't get it to work with my K10 nor my DL2. It worked perfectly with a P30N but not with DSLRs. I measured the trigger voltage at about 7v.

Hope that helps.
