There is a long discussion about them on Strobist.com link
The Pentax and Canon versions are the same, 2.5mm stereo plug for the shutter and focus.

I'm looking for an Eveready type camera case for my K1000, a genuine original Pentax case in very good condition would be first prize.
The one I have seems to be made out of cardboard and it got wet at some stage in it's life.

Greg, there is partial darkening at and before f14 with the lenses I've tried, so I disagree with Malo on that specific point. Whether it's a problem or not depends on you and what you're doing.
I always focus wide open and then stop down. What I was trying to clarify in my mind was whether or not the KatzEye would be substantially more usable in low light conditions than my ME screen which is very good.

It's only a problem on slow lenses or when stopping any lens down with the optical preview lever. For macro photography, I would use Live View or Digital Preview at small apertures rather than Optical Preview.
Well.....Pete already answered this question. And I second his words. As I said, It depends on the used lenses also. I used the Katz and with the fast primes (every one had a max. opening of F2.8 or faster)
Perhaps I did not explain myself clearly and reading the bold text above has confused me more
Using a manual focus lens, K mount, with no auto aperture, and setting the f stop to f14, which will dim the focus screen, will the split centre portion of the Katz Eye with OptiBrite give a problem, half black out, or is it so much better than a cut down ME Super focus screen.

But, when you use splitscreen from focusingscreen.com, there is no black thing in the upper part when you use f12 or above?
