To repair or not to repair? DA* 16-50.
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
I am with John on this one. As long as repair costs less then a good second hand copy, why would you not repair it, even if just to resell it. Plus, if you would buy a second hand copy you would not have certainty that the same problem would no occur again. If you repair you would have a copy you are happy with, a brand new SDM and a warranty. And if I am not mistaken the new SDM should more reliable then the old one.....
The challenge for Pentax
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
Yes, there was a Pentax person on here briefly, who didn't get a particularly warm welcome from some I'm afraid, Is that's who I'm thinking of she wasn't a 'Pentax person' but rather a sub-contracted one person "PR" businessYes, that is what I remember as well. But the fact that a Pentax/Ricoh representative does not get a good welcome is not a good reason not to be active , on the contrary. By what I have seen Pentax/Ricoh does not seem to react to what is happening on social media (such as this site), which is a key part of marketing nowadays
K-50 & 18-135 on Amazon
Posted in Leads to Deals
I wonder why it's £55 cheaper from France than the UK....... Both sold by Amazon........ Can't have anything to do with TAX    --The are often huge differences in price between different Amazon sites. Same product: UK 454 euros FR 408 euros DE 305 euros I guess in part is due to the cheap euro as Gwyn says, but market conditions are very different and competition in Germany seems to be very strong.

I like the composition :D It is different in a good way - a decent 15 quid - the ff model will cost you a few quid more though :shock::shock:It is a FF lens....
F/S Sigma 100-300 F4 EX APO IF

Umm! 100-300 or 50-135 or do I want a divorce :evil:I am sure I am not going to help you with this :D, buying a Sigma 100-300 really does not cost anything. The moment you want to sell it you will get your money back. And if Pentax releases a FF camera..... In my view, the 100-300, there are many more 50-135 for sale

Possible D800 to K3?
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
Hi guys, first post here looking for a little advice. I currently shoot with a Nikon D800 & a Tamron 24-70 f2.8, its a nice bit of kit but I've been finding lately that I don't "need" the 36MP Size of the pictures and also that I'm finding the size a bit of a pain to carry all the time. I've previously had a variety of APS-C DSLR's and tried a few of the mirrorless setups as a potential accompaniment to the D800 but in my realization that I don't think I "need" it I'm beginning to look at a full scale replacement. My lenses I have for the D800 are currently really aimed at Full Frame so if I sold the D800 I'd likely sell them too or I'd consider a straight downsize to the D7100. The smaller size of the Pentax bodies attracts me along with the excellent range of prime lenses which seem like they would be ideal for travel and for sticking on the K3 so I can stick it in my bag daily. I'm looking to see if there are users who have either moved from a D800 (or similar) to Pentax or have shot both and could give some feedback on how they found it?Hi, what kind of photography do you do and what kind of lenses would you be replacing?
Confused - help needed with new/first lens purchase!

I'd seriously consider a secondhand DA 50-135 f2.8. You should be able to get one within your budget and it's like having a bag of primes with you. It's a great lens, but not very fast in focusing ( ballet).

Revisiting a dilemma
Posted in Pentax Digital SLRs
I just won a bid for a K-5 IIs with the KatzEye screen swapped in. Now instead of peaking I have a Fresnel/split-prism viewfinder, like the good old days  For a few extra dollars/pound/euro it can really change the equation... not that such a screen won't fit on a K-3 as well of course 8)Congrats! So does the K-3 use the same focusing screen as the K5/K5ii?

Buy a lens from Argos?
Posted in Lenses for Pentax Cameras
I am very new to DSLR´s, I thought all Pentax lenses fitted to any camera? I have a K-50 what type of mount does this have?Hi Bruce, your camera has a K mount and all K mount lenses will work with it (older ones might not have autofocus and might require you to set aperture manually, but will work). The lens in this thread has a K mount and will work with your camera, in fact it is a very good lens that can be found at a very good price (for instance from srs) The point of this thread is that Argos is selling it at a very high price and they got the lens specs all wrong on their site......

I am selling my Pentax A 35 f2 lens as I need to reduce my lens collection. This is a rare lens, and it is in excellent condition, both externally, mechanically and optically. Focus is very smooth and aperture snappy. I cannot see any signs of note on the barrel. It comes with both back and front cap, the Pentax logo on the front cap has lost some to its paint. I would be happy to answer any questions and send additional pictures if needed. The asking price for the lens is 250 euros, which includes shipment to EU. I accept Paypal as well as bank transfer Pictures below:

I think I will not be able to use this SAL (single aperture lens) as it requires a camera with the SCM mount.:shock:
Full frame
Posted in General Digital Photography chat
The lenses may be the same size but have you seen the size and felt the weight of the Nikon and Canon full-frame camera bodies? Are you sure? The Canon 6D is actually 10g lighter than the k-3 and the Nikon D750 50g heavier.....

Pentax, or ??
Posted in General Photographic Chat
While this thread started because of non-pentax pictures posted on this site, i think the opinion most people have stated is that we should be open to discussing other brands. I fully agree with that if this Forum is also to provide advice on gear, and not only photographic tachniques. This is because Pentax does not have a full range of cameras (most manufacturers do not) and so I think the brand would strengthened by highlighting where it's best. So if a user has needs that fit very well with Pentax's strengths, he/she would get sound and trustful advice. But I do not think anyone on this Forum would say that Pentax is best at fast action photography (yes, I know it can be done...). Otherwise the comparison is always about which brand is best, and Pentax as an overall brand would lose (as would many other good brands). So I believe it would be welcome to allow reasonable discussions on other brands. My experience on other Forums is very positive. I read very positive comments of the K-3 on mirrorless (no names here) forums, as well as on a "FF-brand" forum. And it did not hurt their brand in my view because they were happy with their camera and saw the K-3 best in its own class. Why can't this forum do the same? In my view it is not a matter of common sense, but realising that people have multiple cameras and change then very often. Sound advice can help many of us make the right choice .
New Pentax K-S1

I'd be asking what the reviewers are actually looking for. Personally I didn't hear an overwhelming cry for more LEDs in the hand grip, or less weather sealing etc... I get that the Asian market digs these things. That's fine, but I'm not the Asian market so the Q, that recent bridge camera and this one are not for me. The 645z I think was a recent win but including crappy video on it will hurt the reviewer opinions unfortunately, and it would have been better perhaps not to include it for that reason. And I see the FLU card as quite an odd way to enable wifi connectivity in late 2014 also, but once again, more and more, I'm realising that I'm just not their target audience anymore.Agree in full. After all it is called KS-1 which would indicate a new line of cameras?
Please Sort It Out

A request from me please, not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread. We should have the possibility to modify classifieds posts to update both the title and original post. At the moments threads can be very confusing and we need to go through pages to find out what was sold and what is the current price. It would be much easier if we could indicate in the original post what is sold and update prices. thanks
