FS: Sigma Superwide II AF 24 2.8 lens
Posted in Classified Adverts
For sale my Sigma Superwide II Auto Focus 24mm f2.8 lens. I have recently bought an excellent Pentax FA 20-35 zoom, so this lens has to go! It has heavy signs of use on its barrel (see pictures), but front and back glass and mechanics are in perfect conditions. No signs that I can see on the glass and no fungus. It comes with its original lens hood, generic front cap and Pentax back cap. It is a great lens and I have been very happy with is. Asking price is 165 euros including shipment to any EU country. Payment by PayPal please.

I suppose there might be than one factor in that statement. If you work on your own as a photographer it might not matter, but it might otherwise. It is like saying that it does not matter what sw you use, but if you work in a company or in an environment where you need to share information, you will probably use the "standard" software. I assume it is the same in photography.
A weak lens...

Alistair if you like the focal length, I think you might want to check out the f3.5 versions of the lens - which are quite a step up in image quality. I also have the SMC 35/2M and that's great, but the SMC 35/2.8 is pretty decent too and cheaper when you can find it (just slightly less interesting).+1 for the 28 3.5. This is agreat lens, and very reasonably priced.
The Wrong Camera?

I thought the D7100 was weather sealed?According to Nikon it has the same level of weather sealing as the d800. To be fair, it was not so long time ago that we had a about a Pentax camera damaged by water and Pentax refusing to repair it. And we discussing about the meaning of weather sealing....
MU43 appreciation

Yes, that Forum is quite positive to Pentax, I would add quite positive in general. Lots of people who like photography and have multiple systems, often M43 is the light travel kit.... That is why I find it peculiar the obsession on this Forum about other brands. I think it would be good for Pentax and the Forum if open discussion would be allowed....

£2,500 is nothing for the tools of a professional. Anyone not convinced by Full Frame yet check these by a chap I know .... http://www.bendavisphotography.com/ I can see why Gary has gone Full Frame. I've a feeling "when" Pentax release a FF camera I'm going to be wanting one.Did I notice a few HDR and milky waterfall images in that lot:|:?::?:  That's what I thought too, lots of clichés!:D

I've never seen one of these in the flesh, so to speak. Is the silver finish paint on metal or something else? It would nice to think it might be anodised as chrome finishes used to be, but I guess that would be too expensive now. That's the issue right there. Previously the body was silver because that was the colour of the materials used to construct it. These days however paint seems to feature more prominently...Are you sure they were not painted in the past? (genuine question) I am not an expert, but yes, it is coated, these cameras I guess are made of different materials so it could not be otherwise. I put my k-5 next to my MX and they look very similar. If you have a silver DA ltd lens, that is the same colour and effect. My K-5 after 3 years looks like new, the silver finish is very durable. Lots of threads on the subject,

I have a silver model and it just does look like plastic. That's the impression I've got from modern silver cameras. For some reason real retro silver cameras don't give that impressionI nave a silver k-5 and i IMO it dos not look like plastic. It does not feel like plastic either. I've seen silver canon cameras and they did look like plastic, in fact they were...

which pentax film body to get?
Posted in Pentax Film SLR Cameras
John, this is a very good summary! I would add that the choice depends also on how serious you are about film. If you wand to first try, many of the "newer" film bodies are real bargains compared to older classics, and they are generally speaking easier from a maintenance point of view. For instance they do not require changing seals. Of the ones listed real bargains are IMO the P30n/t (manual focus) and the Z1 (top of the line auto focus)

+1 for the mx. If she is looking for something classic, and fully manual, that would be my choice.
Pentax 50mm 1:2 SMC Pentax-M. Any good for portraits?

Why stop now please?Probably because hotheads like me get increasingly exasperated, and eventually resort to name-calling. I'm doing my best to stay calm, by imagining Algi as a house-elf* from Harry Potter. I can therefore feel sympathy instead of frustration. Eventually, of course, it's possible, albeit unlikely, that Algi will take two pictures where he hasn't moved the camera in between, and the sport will end. _________ *much more like Dobby than KreacherThis is the reason often given to stop exchange of ideas on this Forum. Algiers is making his point in a very civilized way, I think it is rather others who are being unreasonably rude to him and might cause a reaction. I am interested in his point and on whether he is right or wrong, it is something I have been thinking about myself. IMO it would be more useful if those who state he is wrong would post pictures or explanations.
get your Sigma 8-16 while you can.

It appears Sigma are selecting which lens is released with Pentax mount 18-200 yes 50 noIt is interesting especially considering they have interchangeable mounts on the new models, so technically it should not be a problem. It might be more of a logistics issue, numbers too low to justify stocking retailers around the world. It is possible that history shws that their 30mm sold much more than the 50mm on Pentax and for that reason the 35mm is made available. It does also makes sense on aps-c.
Sell me something wide...

[Zooms are a compromise in this respect, but the prime makes you move around more. Can you please explain how you get a 8mm angle of view by walking around with a 14mm lens?:wink:

I would go and buy in person if I was doing this. TBH, I do not understand why you posted this on someone else's sales thread if you are not even interested in the lens?

Another test you could try is would you post what you are saying about Pentax products on a Nikon forum? Then reverse the names and see what you have. If I buy a K-3 do I tell my Nikon forum buddies all about it, or do I look to Pentax User?On the m42 forum there has been a lot of discussion about the K-3, very positive in fact, and no one saw anything wrong with that. The site being for photographers, they are generally interested in photography equipment. And many users have multiple systems. Also on the "other" Forum there is a lot of discussions, even tests of other brands' products. On the Italian Nikon Forum it is not allowed to talk about other brands, but that Forum is owned by the Nikon importer….. So it does depend. I personally think it would be beneficial to have an open policy, especially if the products are indeed competitive. But I know the rules are different….

Actually no they are not irrelevant to me. From what I've seen they aren't irrelevant to many other Pentax shooters here either. It's up to me or anyone else to decide what's relevant or not after we've paid our money Nigel understands the point very well.John, I frankly do not. You might state that "The alternatives are irrelevant to me once I've paid my money", but in my view not that they are irrelevant to us. They are very relevant to me. As a Pentax user (with 8 Pentax cameras) I feel I have a lot of interest in Pentax and for that reason I feel I have the right to be vocal about my views. And because I have paid my money, I am concerned about their future on which my investment depends.

Here you can find a thread discussing DA 31 vs Sigma 35 Art: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/232758-new-sigma-35mm-f-1-4-vs-pentax-fa-31mm-vs-tamron-17-50mm-f-2-8-a.html If you wanted something smaller you can find used copies of FA 35 2.0. Very close to the 31mm in performance….

As I stated previously if and when Pentax do produce a FF model I am sure if it is anything like the K3 it will be a very good camera, although there are bound to be a few people who will find some fault with it and state it's not as good as Nikon or Canon. My own comments are not about the quality of any Pentax cameras: as you also state, any serious camera delivers, except if you have very specific requirements. I think that for Richo to succeed they need to become a key player in the industry, and that is different from having the best product. Consumers choose for other reasons and, whatever we might like, that is all that matters.

Have you by any chance restricted access to the router to selected devices (i.e.: currently your two laptops)? A long shot, but that is the way I had it long time ago, so any new device would have to be authorised by the router...

The figures may be there MattyH, but the interpretation of these overall figures is something else. Still, I'm not going to argue about it, so anyone can look for themselves. According to the new AP, DSLRs account for 80% of interchangeable lens camera sales and are strong. CSCs are weak and not delivering sales. On that basis alone, I would concentrate on DSLR sales, which are, again according to AP, being driven by entry level cameras. That seems to be the market Pentax have very well covered.John, I am not sure I agree that Pentax has that covered. They might have a product in that space, but they do not have the space covered at all. Before Christmas we were flooded with advertisement by every department store, electronics chain, on line retailers, etc. with offers for entry level cameras. I do not think I have seen one advertising Pentax entry level cameras. So no, they do not have that covered. Personally I quite like being the only one around without a Canon or Nikon. I assume Ricoh might not like it as much, though…. :D
