For landscapes you won't lose much (anything) as a 24/28 is a better landscape lens anyway. However the 15 is a simply wonderful lens that goes everywhere with me. It really is terrific.

That aside you have a nice line-up that would seem to cover all your immediate needs, and have two choices in how to advance, either buy better zooms than you have now or start buying primes !

Doug has said it all. I love Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses and if you want MF, a top quality built lens(they look gorgeous - some of the best looking lenses out there) and wonderful IQ then these are the brands to look for (plus Leica of course).

Cosina (Japanese) : don't be fooled by the name. Not only do they have their own brand lenses but as John said they own the brand name Voigtlander ... and also manufacture some lenses for Zeiss and other brands. So that gives you an idea of what superb quality they can produce. I have 2 Cosinas, 3 Zeiss and 1 (soon to be 2) VLs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them.

UWA : 15 Ltd is an amazing lens. Full stop.

WA/Normal : Sounds like you need the Sigma 30/1.4. Not the build quality of a Pentax Ltd but still solid and an absolutely outstanding lens for virtually half the price of the 31 Ltd. Not for landscapes though due to softness at the borders, I used a Contax Zeiss 28/2.8 for that.

Normal/short tele : 43 Ltd. Just a wonderful wonderful lens. And you've got it.

Tele : doesn't sound like you need 100mm but there are a plethora of lenses from the 70 Ltd (which you now have and I'm sure you'll love) through the 77 Ltd to 85s such as the astounding new Sigma 85/1.4. You could also use a Leica 60 R too !

Of course not all are going to be as small as RF lenses though

Well one of reasons there may be a low number of entries is it's so damn difficult to find where to actually submit an entry in the first place ! Go to the Home Page and check in the most logical place ... under Competitions - no not there, logic not working.

I even used the Search function ... no it doesn't appear under Weekly Competition or under #228.

Today was the first time, after 3 or 4 attempts over the past 6 months that I found a comment, by accident, linking to the dropdown in the Gallery - how obvious is that , not !

So I made an entry but does it show up ? No. In fact there isn't even an 'image' button ! So I left a link.

Rant over.

However so is Froeschle because there are some stunning DA* lenses (the 300mm is a fantastic lens and wins over the the F, FA and A* IMHO).
Tongue was firmly in cheek at the time Frogfish.

However modern lenses are designed for modern cameras and offer some of us things older lenses don't - SDM or it's equivalent, water resistance, even simple AF for those of us with less than 20/20 vision is a godsend.
I knew that Gwyn - so was mine

With the IQ of the Sigma 50-150 you could crop it to the FoV of the 18-250 (at 250) and still have better IQ than the 18-250 ! However I'm not sure I'd want to take it backpacking even though it never leaves my side (work or play) ! Superb lens.

IMHO though I'd take the 15 and the 18-250 for a much lighter and compact back-packing kit.

Hi Dave, I saw something the other day about K5 tutorials - I'll see if I can find it again but I'm sure Google will be your friend in this respect and that others here may have positive / negative experience re/ DVDs to share.

If you can stretch to a Metz 50 (or the older 48 - basically the same thing I believe) then you'll have a superb flash that'll do everything you want, including HSS.

Nice link and options here : link

Look forward to seeing some shots !

Hmmm, there are lots of K, M(*), A(*), F(*), FA(*) alternatives. Why would anyone choose a mediocre DA or DA* solution? Just forget about everything, which starts with D...
Maybe because we don't own any of those.

There is nothing wrong with DA lenses. Why would I want to put an ancient old lens onto a superb modern piece of machinery like the K-5?

It's like putting a Hillman Minx engine in a modern car, all looks, still works but doesn't make use of the full potential of the vehicle.

Ouch this is difficult.

Between the 15Ltd (oh how I would hate to give up this lens), the Sigma 30/1.4, 43 Ltd or Sigma 50-150 I think.

From those I have now I think the Sigma 30/1.4 as it's incredibly sharp (so cropping is a joy and hardly impacts IQ) and a great all round lens. However I'm supposed to pick up a Contax Zeiss 35-70 next week and from all accounts it's Zeiss prime quality at every focal length so that may usurp the Sigma 30.

It is now Stuey but I grew up in Bromborough then later lived in Chester, so Deeside was just a short drive away. Thanks for the update, they used to have decent gigs on there.
