Excellent thread. For versatility I guess my DA 17-70 f4 but I kind of feel like a zoom is cheating.

So I will choose ultimate simplicity and go for the DA 35mm f2.4.
Having said that I love the DA*50-135 but it aint the most versatile lens for me.

Oops I know I am going to be BANNED, I love my DA*16-50, I Adore My DA* 50-135, But I would have to keep my Bigma.(Sigma 50-500.)

The Bigma was a close second, along with the 60-250, but I'd be more likely to keep taking photos with the 17-70 than either of those monsters.

Think it would have to be the SMC A 50 1.7 as well! Of all the lenses (incl Ltd's) and all the money, this £70 ebay job delivers magazine quality, close focuses, low light and good focal length, plus the action is just a joy to use...
Either that or my SMC A 35-105 which has been described well as 'a stack of primes',slightly more versatile (zoom & pusedo macro), but heavy.

50-135 for me. Absolutely fantastic lens although it is not the most versatile lens around. However it seriously depends on when you ask me. I loved my 50-135 while in Barcelona so I've chosen that but if i am going light I couldn't swap the 40mm for anything

FA 35/2 for me. Usable on film and digital and a fabulous low light lens.

Very, very tuff choice, but I think it would have to be the DA* 50-135, I would of course hide the DA* 16-50 and deny that I had two lenses.

Hmmm, there are lots of K, M(*), A(*), F(*), FA(*) alternatives. Why would anyone choose a mediocre DA or DA* solution? Just forget about everything, which starts with D...

I found it quite difficult to decide, but think it would be my SMC A 1:1.7 50mm, or would it... aagh...
