#1 is good because it gives one a sense of the despair, #3 because the background is indistinguishable - which is the problem in #2.

My goodness it looks too cold there to be doing any climbing ! I like #3 the best, the people give you a sense of scale and how deep the snow actually is, be better if we can see their faces though.

The last shot also looks very interesting however it's tough to be impressed when such a grand scale is covered by such a small image - I'd bet it would look great when blown-up.

Thank you very much for the positive response to the shot and negative response to the frames (noted for the future) !

Stuey, Steven, Pentaxophile, Michael, Sandinista and Dr. O : all comments appreciated !

Dr.O - that's exactly what attracts me to these characters that can sometimes still be found on the streets here.

It's interesting (and maybe a little strange) to see that over the different forums I posted this on the response has been roughly equal for each version. I had thought that one version would surge to the forefront but it appears not.

Usually there are two of them (husband & wife ?) working together down this tiny alley but today he was alone and I had a chance to shoot.

Which version do you like best (sorry about the frame encroaching on the shot - obviously in print it wouldn't be) ?

[quote:3496ace15f="Mike-P"][quote:3496ace15f="steven9761"]My one "grump" about the K-r is that the AA battery accessory is an optional extra, costing around £25, but well worth it!
You can get copies on Ebay from China for around £4
I work for a courier company that specialises in the Chinese/HK market. If I had any faith in what I was buying, I'd get my accessories shipped over that way. I had considered buying the K-5 from www.cheapchinawholesale.net as they priced the camera at around £420-£450 (dependent upon the exchange rate) but that's a lot of money to lose if it turns out not to be what they claim it is - GENUINE Pentax goods.
The link http://www.cheapchinawholesale.net/ doesn't work in ie or firefox
Oooooops!!...

This is the correct address!! :">
Steven, I know you are just trying to be helpful but I'm surprised after my last warning that you are propagating this. As I pointed out in the other thread in which you posted this link .... they advertise no phone numbers, no addresses and as I live in China I can tell you there are plenty of scam sites (in both English & Chinese) advertising everything from full spec MacBook Pros at half price to the most popular cameras at almost giveaway prices, and are happy & willing to take the money of naive punters.

If you haven't personally dealt with them you should leave this one well alone.

John. This could well be a scam site ... the prices are totally unrealistic and these cameras (and lenses) can absolutely not be found for anything close to those prices here in China (China prices are similar to those in the USA). I suggest you consider deleting any links/reference to the site to protect people on here who may be tempted.

Cheers
Kevin

Great set i really like the last one
Thank you Geordie. I'm pleased the last one is generally in favour as I wasn't sure how it would go down on here.

Stuey - I'm sure you'd have a ball over here, so much to see and so much to shoot !

Very nice set Kevin! I do like 'Solo Momento'. 2 and 8 have nice DOF control, was this the 30mm 1.4?
Thank you P. Yes, I think you can recognise the 30/1.4 a mile away ! It's also used in a couple more of the series.

The monochrome rendering is technically bold but very successful in creating atmosphere. It adds to the mystery and drama of a scene from a part of the world strange and unfamiliar to a western, particularly west-european, audience (vidience?)
Thank you Duncan - I'm pleased it worked for you.
