Usually there are two of them (husband & wife ?) working together down this tiny alley but today he was alone and I had a chance to shoot.

Which version do you like best (sorry about the frame encroaching on the shot - obviously in print it wouldn't be) ?

Version 3 is my favourite

Yep version 3 for me too, the colour one's good too though. Thumbs down for fancy, digitally added frames though!

No.2 for me.
I agree about the digital frames.....a no no in this instance.
The colour shot is also good.

Colour version for me, really like the faded tones and the blues help bring the scene together. Whereas the other two say timeless, the colour version speaks of scraping a living in modern times with traditional methods. Excellent shot, lose the naff frame though.

Thank you very much for the positive response to the shot and negative response to the frames (noted for the future) !

Stuey, Steven, Pentaxophile, Michael, Sandinista and Dr. O : all comments appreciated !

Dr.O - that's exactly what attracts me to these characters that can sometimes still be found on the streets here.

It's interesting (and maybe a little strange) to see that over the different forums I posted this on the response has been roughly equal for each version. I had thought that one version would surge to the forefront but it appears not.

The colour version for me too, for exactly the reasons Dr Orloff states.

The only reason I prefer the BW version (apart from the nice tones!) is that the red thing in the BG distracts slightly, in the BW shot the chap's face has less visual competition. Knock that red back or turn it blue and the colour shot will edge into the lead.

I prefer the straight BW version (no 3).

I know what you mean but for me I actually find the white paper more distracting than the red (bag ?) ! However the chaos surrounding him, of whatever form/colour, is part of what attracted me to shoot this scene in the first place. It's still interesting to find there is total discord in choosing one of the three though ... I think I might print all three in a row (Sepia/Colour/B&W) as a 16x9 !

I found it very interesting that was no consensus of opinion, but a lot of valid comments, as to the best version and can only conclude that it all boils down to personal preference !

Across 5 forums the voting went like this :

Colour 13 = 37%
Sepia 13 = 37%
B&W 9 = 26%
