Steven.

There were no computers back in those days (30+ years ago) and we covered the whole Tariff book - not just a section !

I found it very interesting that was no consensus of opinion, but a lot of valid comments, as to the best version and can only conclude that it all boils down to personal preference !

Across 5 forums the voting went like this :

Colour 13 = 37%
Sepia 13 = 37%
B&W 9 = 26%

Nice post !

This takes me back .... I worked for HMC&E on the Import Desk for a year (I hated making changes to the hundreds of pages in the tariff book - reams of them every week). Luckily after a year I became a C&E dog handler (fantastic) !

To 'the untrained eye' is correct ... one of the biggest problems C&E have from import agencies is products assigned to the incorrect tariff and therefore incorrect duty payable (or zero).

Lovely shot ... and OMG what a fat waxwing that is !

I wonder just what the CaNikon shooters think when it's a shot from a Pentax that wins / places in these competitions. Does it encourage them to give Pentax a second look ?

... and there was me wondering if it has been taken using a fisheye...

Nice image though.

Best wishes, Kris.
You're right .. I have absolutely no idea what I was looking at !! Now I feel reassured that my 10-20 is not a freak of nature

The only reason I prefer the BW version (apart from the nice tones!) is that the red thing in the BG distracts slightly, in the BW shot the chap's face has less visual competition. Knock that red back or turn it blue and the colour shot will edge into the lead.
I know what you mean but for me I actually find the white paper more distracting than the red (bag ?) ! However the chaos surrounding him, of whatever form/colour, is part of what attracted me to shoot this scene in the first place. It's still interesting to find there is total discord in choosing one of the three though ... I think I might print all three in a row (Sepia/Colour/B&W) as a 16x9 !

Gorgeous shot. Very slightly over-exposed (window highlights) and a pity about the beam of sunlight hindering the reading of the plaque in the foreground, but this one should be printed and hung on your wall.

What FL was it shot at ? I'm surprised at the lack of obvious distortion.
