I have an Epson Sylus Photo 1400, the 'little brother' to the excellent R1900, and I'm very happy indeed with the quality. Borderless A3 is wonderful, especially in conjunction with Fotospeed gloss photo paper.

The 1400 has 6 ink tanks, but IIRC the 1900 has additional cartridges for matte black and gloss optimiser, which was recommended (according to the salesman at Park Camera) especially if you print a lot of black and white!

Edit: I added a smiley...

(The difference in price was also, at the time, prohibitive for my limited budget.)

Talking of metric/imperial crumpet holes, it seems to me that the whole approach to going metric in Britain is to do it 'inch-by-inch'.

When I was studying engineering, we used to call imperial units 'Christian' units, much to the annoyance of the Iranians on our course.

He was also *almost* James Bond (before Connery), but turned it down as he didn't like the image that came with Bond.

I was a beginner when I bought my K10D (I had a film SLR before and a 'fully automatic' digital camera) and found the Magic Lantern Guides very useful indeed. Highly recommended.

Yes, a great hero of mine, especially for Danger Man and the 'sequel' Prisoner.

I can still hum the theme tune to Danger Man, even though I was only a lad when it was first on.

Wierdly, I can also hum the theme tune to Flipper, but it keeps going wrong...

"Flipper, Flipper, Flipper the..... bush kangeroo??????

Ah ha. Now I have it - it's the other end of TCR from where I was...

Damn - back last spring I hunted up and down TCR for a good camera shop and never found one! I did visit a computer fair and what a waste of time that was...

On the point of memory cards, my philosophy is to buy lots of small-ish ones (e.g. 1 and 2Gb) as I don't take a huge number of shots. I had a bad experience with an Olympus card, where we lost 320 out of 400 holiday shots due to a corrupted memory card.

I might be just a bit paranoid here.

The other point to note is that these things do *eventually* wear out - they do have a finite life.

Me too - 40/60 and I can get the dancer to go both ways.

Edit - and I'm an extrovert, but then I could have told you that!

Hmmm... I 'phoned and got offered £80 - £90 for the GX-10 depending on condition and if all cables, etc. are available.

So IMHO a trade-in isn't really worthwhile.

If I was buying new, however, £399 with kit lens is amazing value.
