There's definitely variability in the equipment and in the process (tripod position, distance, ambient temperature, dust in the lens mount, etc.).

It is important to switch the SR to off when on a tripod (now I'm not suggesting for one minute...:blush - I wonder if this could affect the results if SR was left on? I suppose it depends on how the SR moves the sensor...:

It's definitely worth doing - many of my pictures, particularly those taken in a hurry, are sharper. (We have a K10D and a GX-10)

It's also definitely worth doing with all your lenses - as there is only one adjustment on the K10D/GX10, I found it useful to be spot on with the long telephoto (Tamron 70-300) and let the wide angle (Pentax 12-24) be a bit out. Luckily, my Tamron and Pentax 43 Limited (the lens that's most often on the Camera) seem to need an identical setting.

Glad to hear that the English language version of the software is working now. I still use the Russian version (with a copy of the tutorial in English)!

I have a Celestron 1,000 mm (f11) telescope with a T-mount. We were trying to photograph Jupiter tonight - but my K10D simply doesn't have enough pixels to resolve any detail.

With an 18 mm eyepiece instead of the T mount we could see four moons and clear banding on the Jovian atmosphere.

That 2.0 m lens might be interesting!

I'm not sat with my camera at the mo, but isn't there a 'enable SDM' setting on the K10 at least that could be switched off, thus allowing the screw drive to run? :

I have tried the 'Digital King' version, before I bought my 12-24 Pentax. My advice is don't bother with these screw on adaptors - too many problems to list!

Could the metering have gone all to c*ck because light has entered via the viewfinder?

Ebuyer are excellent IMHO.

I also use Novatech, as their Reading shop is only about four miles away. Their prices are not usually *quite* as good as Ebuyer, but their customer service and knowledge is very good indeed (apart from the grumpy tech support guy based in Portsmouth!). They also run a forum, which can be very useful indeed if you are an 'interested amateur system builder' like I am.

I had a similar problem with one of our computers recently - no POST. It turned out to be a power supply problem that also took the motherboard with it. The guys at Novatech Reading were so helpful with this (testing the individual components in their back room, then dealing with the warranty from the manufacturers - the parts were over one year old, but covered by three year manufacturers warranties), that I definitely owe them my next purchases!

From my experience with a Tamron teleconverter, I would say that IQ is significantly better without. I have compared a 135 mm prime and (2X) teleconverter against a Tamron 70-300 zoom, and IMHO the zoom IQ is much better. With the teleconverter, colours also seem to go 'cartoon like' (can't think of a better way of describing the effect) and contrast drops off.

I also tried the teleconverter on the Tamron zoom, and the IQ drops dramatically.

Maybe I've got a 'bad' one (teleconverter)? Otherwise I would recommend going with the zoom.

Yes, SRS is selling this at £399.00, and they are usually very competitive.
