I agree. There is tragedy somewhere every day. In that context Timgate is of course a non-matter but so is anything associated with this forum or any other aspect of people's daily lives. But that doesn't mean the normal and the trivial shouldn't go on too, even Timgate. I don't think any protagonist has a confused perspective.

I like the colours and textures but particularly the sense of scale that you have achieved with these shots. That really is a fantastic part of the world, not many better coastlines anywhere.

I hope I'm not acting the prima donna. JR does a great job and I'm happy to abide by the rules. But it's quite within any player's remit to request clarification of the interpretation of the rules. Especially the one saying Users should be aware that Pentax User does not generally monitor Forum content. Taking the dispassionate and neutral observer's stance I can't help feeling that it takes two to tango and this whole issue got far too personal far too soon and there is a better way to modify topics that do not prima facia denigrate the site in any way.

I'm disappointed as I'll have to find a new sucker for my next April Fool. I've made my point and therefore whether or not it is considered I'll leave this thread now. I will do so in the knowledge that in the absence of clarification any of my topics may be removed for any reason whatsoever and while I disagree with that I do accept it.

I saw the posts too. Tim hasn't lied about the original post.

The original post in the General Chat section was as described, the heading of "For those of us born in the 70s" and a link to some photos of people jumping to touch a cube, a sort of a real life recreation of a video game.

After that post disappeared, Tim posted a second time and it is that post which Shaky describes.

There is obviously a difference of opinion about the mechanism by which the original post disappeared. Tim says it was deleted prior to any contact, John says there was a request to move it. I doubt we'll find out who is right. I don't think the PM exchanges that followed should be discussed in public, that aspect of moderation should always remain private.

My experience of other forums tells me that there is nothing that ends up in greater rancour than the deletion of a topic and I'm not susprised that it results in altercation. Therefore I do think that it is reasonable to discuss what type of content should or should not be subject to moderation.

This is what the terms of use point out:

Pentax User reserves the right to edit or remove any material posted on the Forum at its discretion and in particular if Pentax User considers that material is offensive or is the subject of a complaint by another User. Users should be aware that Pentax User does not generally monitor Forum content.

We reserve the right to edit forum comments that include links to other web sites when we think the link is not appropriate and could affect our business or reputation.

The original post was clearly not offensive, but there is clearly a right by the PU team to delete or move any content whatsoever. Obviously the principle of not monitoring content was not deemed appropriate in this case either.

Personally I don't see why the original thread was deemed an inappropriate topic in its own right (as opposed to being valid content but only as part of a rambling thread of miscellany). It's not my thing but I know Tim is a keen street photographer and I can appreciate the attraction of something like that.

I have every respect for the extremely tough and time consuming job that moderators do, it is clearly a thankless task. I also respect the rights of the PU team to modify any content that they see fit. And I make no comment on the series of events that followed the initial intervention. However, where there are topics that clearly do not breach forum rules and that are photographic in nature then I would ask the PU team to come to a consensus decision before removing a topic and to explain to the membership why that type of content is deemed inappropriate. That would make the ground rules more transparent and help in avoiding a similar occurrence in future.

I also hope that differences can be settled and I would like to see said members return.

That is a superb picture, the right moment expertly captured. It would be perfect if the distortion evident in the slant of the chimney pots could be corrected. While it makes little difference at this size, this is definitely one for the wall.

Hear, hear George +1, I'm all for forthrightness.

I hope the printing is better than the syntax.

It does seem a shame to lose such a good forum member over something like that. I enjoyed Tim's photos, his contributions, sense of humour and straightforward views. RIP virtual Tim.

I saw that thread about Mario. Odd but computer games aren't my thing. Didn't offend me though.

After Tim (Thoughton) posted a comment on a gallery photo of mine I went in to send him a messaage and it seems he's gone! (user inactive). This must have been today, any ideas?
