excellent shots Derek. must start putting a flash in the bag.
ref your comment in Nigel's post about flash shutter speed, i get 180th with E/V adjustment set to 1/3 on my K5 11s so cannot see that being the reason you cannot get it unless it is a K3 thing
Might be a K3 thing.

Most of the bugs I have taken are ugly little things
I thought it was just me that got the whole, you are going out with the camera again, thing
Thanks for the 1/2 steps thing, I can get 180th now.
On a purely technical level I would like to see some sample bug shots from you
Just to see if I should consider getting a flash (other than my ring flash) to use for macro work too
If my setup doesn't frighten them away I'd say you would be safe enough with yours.
It would be really helpful

Its fairly obvious, the benefits of off camera flash even for this type of shooting, as the ringflash is just front on, so no option for real directional light.
Thanks for the ev steps thing. Will try it when I'm back home.
2nd one for me too
Colours, detail and comp, came together on this one.

Love the quality of the lighting. Your focusing is bang on and as we have all come to expect from you the lighting is too.
Just lovely
I would like to see some bug shots from you, to see what can be achieved by someone who knows how to use flash properly.
You said you shot yours at 180th, when shooting macro I don't seem to have a 180th option. It will go from 160th to 200th and of course won't fire at 200th so I'm left shooting at 160th.
Any thoughts. As ever, shooting in manual.

As ever, K3ii + 52mm tubes + 105mm macro + ringflash and diffuser
Not the best angles, but they're what I could get.

I'd try cleaning the contacts as a starting point.
Does the irix have an aperture ring ?
If it does you could try setting aperture on lens and see if it's still happening.
Hope it's an easy fix.
Interesting lens that irix.
