Very nice set JudithAnn. I had vaguely heard of this but I thought it was something to do with the Northern Lights. Beautiful photos - and something new learned as well.

Sorry I'm coming late into this one, its been a busy Christmas. Like several other commentators I like your first version Ted. The warmth adds a comfortable feeling to the scene even if its not strictly accurate. Who said art had to be accurate? Good effort by SteveT to slightly correct the cast but I'll stay with No.1 as my favourite.

For street photography - say I'm going round Durham or Newcastle, one body, a K10, one lens. I travel light with no camera bag to get in the way. The lens might be the DA16-50 or the DA50-135, it varies. If I go with the intention of doing more graphic work or modern architecture I'll also take the Sigma 10-20mm.
On a project trip such as the Goths weekend at Whitby or when I'm on holiday I have two K10 bodies and the three lenses just mentioned.
If I set out to photograph a special steam train assignment I take the two bodies, my Pentax FA 70-200mm zoom which I've had for years and the two Pentax DA* lenses.
Much as I admire some of the great bird pictures you see on this site I don't do natural history, although I have some deer pictures taken in a deer park near where I live. So I don't have a long lens and I don't even own a tripod. My monopod spends its life languishing in my car boot.

Cameras: Loads of experience in photography over the years, but that hasn't made me an expert. I have a grasp of composition and know when to break the rules, which I do quite often. Like Graham Walton (above) I'm in a big camera club where I've won a few competitions and had acceptances and awards at Federation level. I came quite late in the day to digital photography.
Computers: Learned on a need to know basis which means I don't know much. Photoshop skills are basic but I can find my way around enough to tidy up a picture and carry out some useful tasks.
Ambition: To become a Pentax pro master like my avitar claims me to be.

Some great winter weather pictures are available but not all PU members live where freezing conditions exist. I have chosen Your Weather/Climate conditions and every one can enter not just our UK, European or North USA and Canadian members. If you live in Tennessee, South Africa, New Zealand, Oz or Sri Lanka or India or anywhere warmer, you can still find local climate conditions to create interesting photos this next fortnight. The usual rules apply, pictures must be taken on Pentax or Samsung DSLR cameras within the time scale of this competition, from now until 6pm UK time Wednesday January 6. Please include EXIF data with your entry.
Edit: The competition is open to users of any type of Pentax camera, not just DSLRS. Samsung's have be DSLRs which are twins of the Pentax models.

Many of my friends in my camera club - Durham Photographic Society -and in the Northern Counties Photographic Federation are members of the RPS and some have honours up to FRPS level. My New Year's resolution is to join the Royal and try for an LRPS.
By the way Durham Photographic Society has the DVD as copies are sent to all camera clubs who screen the show.
My own best result recently was to get two Certificates of Mertit for the two prints I had accepted in the International Salon of Photography run by the NCPF.

Wow, thanks Dr Mhuni - I'm a newcomer to the fortnightlies and this is my first, and unexpected, win. I thought the competition from the people I regard as among the most talented in PU would see me off.
My entry was shot in appalling weather and for security reasons (my security) I was standing well away from the shop doorway, its quite a big blow up.
I loved all the other interpetations of this subject and your thoughtful comments. I enjoyed Lilly's colourful entry and admired her dedication in entering from her trip to India and was entertained yet again by Womble's deadline-dodging antics. I'm off to look at the list of previous subjects - I just hope I can come up with something as challenging as Dr Mhuni's choice. You'll hear from me soon.

PS: A happy Christmas and prosperous New Year to you all - and don't forget your next fortnightly entries.

That's a great shot Kris and the black and white conversion ideally suits the mood. Good composition is helped by that wonderfully shaped tree.
