Winter in the Scottish Highlands was spectacular this week. These two were taken on my way to Rannoch Moor. C+C welcome.

I've just got back from the Scottish highlands after a few days away so I'm looking at these for the first time. Nice work Paul, that's a great manipulation job. I'm sure Warhol would have approved.

You're a beginner? Those shots in your portfolio are terrific. Can't wait till you become an advanced photographer. I just loved your Cold Day On Wall Street.

There's a danger here of getting bogged down with a discussion on the ethics of snatching pictures of people in the street. Glyn's competition is for any sort of people pictures. They can be people who are aware that you are taking them and are up for it, such as entertainers, politicians, as I-berg says, or models in a studio. Your own kids are also people.

I'm famous among my friends for not using a tripod and rarely using the monopod I own. But that's because the type of photography I do is instinctive (as in street photography) or with wide angles. I can hand hold at ridiculously slow shutter speeds with my Sigma 10-20mm, helped by the K10's shake reduction.
But if I had a lens longer than my ageing but still very sharp Pentax FA 70-200mm zoom I would use a tripod. It seems pointless spending lots of dosh on a quality telephoto of any sort only to have the picture quality ruined through shake. I'd love a 500mm mirror lens but I think a tripod would be a must for that.

If I got this lens I might have to buy a tripod.

No.1 for me. I think the lack of a 'killer' Mike referred to is a contrast issue. Really harsh contrast would emphasise the sraight lines of the structure and add to the image's strength. The tilt is good, it looks like the last hours of the Titanic but the curtains let it down, they are hanging at the wrong angle.

Lovely work Graham. I particularly enjoyed No. 2 because of the detal in the forsty grass. The flare in No. 3 does spoil it slightly for me but it's still an excellent photo.

Well done to all, some great entries there along with superb comments from Judge Hyram.

Having settled the results, I then tried to decide which was my favourite icon, but could not reach a decision – if only there had been an actual Ferrari 275GTB or a Lancia Stratos !
Arrgh.......I looked at the stratos, along with many other Group B rally cars (quattro, 6R4 etc) and decided that I couldn't capture the essence of Groub B with one car !

Anyway, thanks for the comments Hyram and we done again to our winners.

If davidtrout doesn't mind I would like to give his urinal a bit of a pop art twist?

Regards

Feel free Paul.

Last year I did a series of pictures of the market stall holders in Newcastle's historic Grainger Market. I used the DA*16-50mm lens, so I got pretty close. Each time I asked permission. They all agreed except the market manager who refused to be photographed. One of the women said: 'I'm glad you asked. The photographers usually just sneak up and point their cameras when they think you aren't looking.'
