Some great compositions in here George, number 2 being probably my favourite.

I do think though that they suffer in general for having been taken without a ND Graduated filter; the balance between sky and ground is a fight in some of them. I noted your observation in another thread that you have started to use filters and I think this will benefit your landscapes massively.

What a great start to posting your images on the Forum. I'm looking forward to seeing more if they are all as good as this one.

I don't know anything about the D7100 or any other Nikon camera and to be honest I don't really care. It's great to read about comparisons between various models / brands, but really the only thing that matters is 'are we happy with the performance of what we have'? I like Pentax ergonomics, I like Pentax build quality, I like Pentax lenses, I'm not 100% convinced about Pentax AF, but I will live with it.

I don't want to follow a crowd, I want to do what I want to do. I haven't seen much evidence of other Brands producing better images for the same financial input and I don't think that moving to another brand makes anyone a better photographer. I can understand the needs of professional photographers who need and demand a certain standard of performance in specific areas, but I suspect most of us on here don't fall into that category.

It would be better if more of us concentrated on honing our skills and artistic creativity to take better images and process them to the best we can, rather than worrying about what brand of camera we take them on (or even about what model within a particular Brand, harking back to previous debates about K-5 vs K-5iis and K-5 vs K-3)!

It's not life or death, it's a hobby (or profession) we all enjoy.

Cheers
David

Just remember, it could be worse.

Remember that, one of the kit lens offerings for the Pentax K-01 was the Pentax 40mm XS?

Sure it's incredibly small, compact, lightweight, and all. But if one would want to attach any type of a filter such as a circular polarizer - or better yet, a lens shade. It simply looks ridiculous with either.

I'll tell you what, I have the K-01 and DA 40mm XS and I think the lens is superb. I don't know about using it with filters, but as a kit lens it is a belter. Superb IQ, relatively fast aperture, and very tiny, I would not wish to sell it. Yes, I may one day part with the K-01 as it is not the most user friendly camera out there, but I would keep the 40mmXS.

I don't know the specific details of this sale, so I can't and won't comment on it. I have bought and sold many items on the forum, all transactions perfect except one attempted one which failed, when I had a similar experience to the one described, i.e. I thought I had agreed a purchase, only to find out that the seller had sold the item to someone else.

Hey-ho, that's life.

My view it that it is a decent lens, but not exceptional and neither would you expect it to be.

I would only use mine if I had no other alternative, I've had lots of other mid-range zooms and to be honest I preferred them all to the kit lens, e.g. DA 16-45, DA 17-70, Sigma 17-70.

I'm not denigrating it, but would only turn to it in bad weather or if I had no other alternative. Sorry if this sounds negative, it's not meant to be! It is the only 'kit lens' I've ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to other than the more expensive alternatives!

What I will say is that I think the DA 55-300 is more worthy of being singled out for praise than the 18-55, in my view the DA 55-300 (or in my case the DA L 55-300) is exceptional in its price range.
