Congratulations Jon, the images are stunning. Has anyone read the comments people have posted below the article? There are some real idiots out there, some of these people clearly don't have a brain that functions normally.

David

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

At the risk of making a complete fool of myself, something I seem to do with disturbing regularity, I'll wager that those with the slightly cooler colour balance (e.g. 3 and 12) were shot with the Tamron.

Your choice to forgo the dubious pleasures of DIY in favour of photographic fulfillment has been demonstrably vindicated. Without wishing to seem unkind, perhaps you should consider sending SWMBO away for the weekend more often

3 and 12 are not the ones with the Tamron! I think the cooler balance on these is more to do with the lighting / backgrounds. Any other guesses? It might be difficult to spot on the Forum, but at full size there's a big difference in micro contrast and sharpness.

Regarding the missus being away more often, I'll have to have a word with her about that! We've just bought a new caravan so maybe I'll have some opportunities to get away on my own in it (the Lake District is beckoning me).

Cheers

That is really something special, very well done on this spectacular work. The exposures and colour saturation are spot on and the locations are stunning.

Last Sunday the missus was away and I decided not to do any DIY and instead went to RSPB Old Moor, a fabulous little nature reserve between Barnsley and Rotherham in South Yorkshire. Here are some of the results, hope you like, please feel free to leave any appropriate comments, good or bad.

The shots are mostly with the DA*300 and 1.4 TC, most with the K-3 but some with the K-5iis. There's also a smattering with my 45 year od Tamron Adapt-a-matic 300mm F5.6, which is quite a challenge to use for nature photography. Can you guess which ones are with the old lens?

The third one draws me in too. I think its the DOF, also the fact that 3 of the 4 runners have both feet off the ground. This makes it look a little surreal.

Whatever it is, that shot has a certain 'something' that most images don't and I like it very much.

I don't feel I have reached anywhere near the potential of my K-3 yet, so no I won't be buying a K-1 in the foreseeable future. I won't say never, but at present I'm not doing enough photography to justify the cost.

It's rare to get one that close! Great picture.

A great set Andrew, number 7 is a belter! I would crop it ever so slightly at the bottom but otherwise that one does it for me.

The lens appears to be a fantastic performer.

I've mentioned this many times on the Forum before, but my favourite manual lens is the M28 F3.5. Superb landscape lens and I suspect even better on a K1 which will allow the wider perspective. I've taken a lot of my favourite shots with this lens. It is particularly good with green landscapes as it renders the green colour spectrum extraordinarily well, without giving any colour cast to the overall image.

These lenses are not common, but can be found quite easily on ebay for around £40 for a good example.

A most beautiful set of images, with 2,6,10 and 11 being particular eye-catchers for me. These make me feel a bit down because I haven't had the time in the past couple of years to get out and about on my own to do any serious landscape or seascape stuff. I must try to find more time and make the effort.

Thanks for posting Bill, they are great.
