These are great, so different to the norm on here, well done and thanks for posting them. I tend to agree with John on the contrast, but perhaps that works in their favour?

The second is 'streets ahead' (pun intended) because it's a natural and candid shot, whereas the first being posed looks a bit unnatural. As Nigel says the person in the second image fits perfectly into his surrounding and this puts him in context.

Just my opinion of course, I'm sure many will disagree!

For what it's worth, the other reason I like 3 and 4 is that they look natural, whereas to my eye the first and second look a tad over processed? In particular the cliffs and sky don't look quite right, almost as if they've been separately processed to the foreground?

Nigel will probably be able to shed some light on this.

Very nice Nigel, 3 and 4 are my favourites as they show off the beauty of the heath with nothing to distract the eye.

The last one is my favourite too, I like the hint of context the ship is placed within. I tried something similar with some of my Santorini shots (not yet processed) by using the 55-300 lens to compress the perspective of the crowded buildings.

PS I've just spotted your earlier post with the cats. You obviously also had the K5ll with you.
Hi David, yes K-5iis and K-3, very little to choose between them, both reliable performers. I also took the MX-1, although this was mainly used on board the ship and for evening duties, when carrying a DSLR around was not practical. I also took my Redsnapper tripod, but never again, only used it once!

Excellent, avoiding burnt out whites and lens flare can be challenging so i can fully appreciate your results. Lovely to have so much light though. I reckon two to three stops more than at home.

I lug camera and three lenses most trips to Greece. Always have a debate with myself over it but always glad I did. I have the Pentax 12 - 24 DA, what a superb lens, shame it is still so dear new for anyone (usually around £700). Based on a Tokina joint design, i gather, and long overdue for an upgrade to motorised WR I guess.
Cheers Bill, the light was actually quite difficult in Santorini, these were under-exposed by a minimum of one stop to avoid burn-out on the whites. I have the Samsung version of the 12-24, I agree it is a superb lens, I was lucky to pick one up second hand but never used, for £350 a couple of years back.

Thanks again to everyone, it makes it worthwhile posting images on here when so many people take the time and trouble to post their thoughts.

Some more images from recent holiday destinations, these are of Santorini, Greece. This place is staggeringly beautiful, very photogenic, but many views of it have been seen so many times. I tried very hard whilst there not to take the typical 'tourist' shots, not sure if I've succeeded.

All shot with the K-3, lenses are a combination of the DA L 55-300 and the 12-24 (Samsung variant).
