Excellent set George, as I mentioned on facebook you took images of so many things I didn't see! It's amazing how differently we all see things when in the same place.

2 and 10 are my particular favourites.

Once again, I notice how much better these look on facebook than they do here in the forum, the colours are more vibrant and I can really see the benefit of the K-1's superior IQ on there. It really is about time we had some better options for image uploads on here (apologies for raising an old topic again).

David

A lovely set all round, I particularly like the ones in portrait format.

The third and fifth images are the stand-out ones here. I do think the others are too dark and are not giving of their best due to the under-exposure. Number 5 would grace anyone's wall.

These are very good filters if anyone wants a ten stopper, you won't do better for 25 quid! I have one already, otherwise I would buy it.

Hello and welcome, some good advice already given above by Davem. I would tend to agree with Dave in that you should look for a decent zoom which covers a fairly wide focal range, the Pentax DA18-55 (otherwise known as the 'kit lens' as it was provided with many camera bodies when purchased new) is a good place to start, it is a decent lens and can be bought cheaply second hand.

I would also recommend a Pentax 55-300, these come in several variants and are a great telephoto zoom. Don't be afraid of the plastic mount versions (these are the 'DA L' variant) as these are cheaper, have the same optics and are lighter in weight. The plastic mount is robust and will last as long as you don't drop the camera and lens from a great height (I've had mine for 6 years approx. with no problems experienced). The metal mount version (badged 'DA') are a bit more expensive and have a quick focus facility, which means you can manually focus when the camera is in autofocus mode, which can't be done on the cheaper plastic mount version. There are also newer versions with 'HD' coating on the lens, I haven't tried one of these but they get good reports. Don't buy the 'plm' version as it is designed for use only with the latest Pentax DSLR's.

If you get a 18-55 and a 55-300 you will have coverage of a very wide focal range for very little outlay and you'll have kit capable of taking stunning images.

Hope this is useful info.

David

Is it a fully charged Pentax battery? Maybe the current is low, perhaps even a battery reaching the end of its life?
Hi John, it's not a battery issue as it has happened with several different batteries in the camera. I always use fully charged batteries and on one particular day when doing a festival shoot I replaced the battery 3 times and it happened with all of them. After it happened and I re-inserted the same battery all was good again, so it can't have been battery power causing the problem.

Magical, why on earth are you selling this kit? Actually, I know you did tell us why and I'm sorry you have to do this as you obviously bonded with this camera.

Thanks for posting such accomplished work.

Such a beautiful set. 4, 5 and 10 are simply enchanting, but all are gorgeous.

I know it's an old thread, but worth re-visiting I think. My 50-135 does need to be 'woken up' sometimes but I've also noticed a different issue which only happens when the lens is on my K-5iis, not on my K-3. Sometimes the shutter won't fire, it seems to be trying to go but doesn't make it. It's only a problem when the 50-135 is attached. I can resolve it by taking the battery out and putting it back in again. Any suggestions as to what this might be?

David
