I suppose it depends on the eyesight, but there's nothing easier than using the viewfinder to manually focus. The requirements are correct adjustment of the eyepiece dioptre and the correct glasses, if needed.

LiveView, IMHO, is only suitable for composition and not for critical focusing manually, regardless of marque.
Live view is brilliant for focussing on difficult subjects, especially when shooting macros and still-life. The K-r definitely has the close-up feature in live view, as does the K-x. Press the 'Info' button and on each press the image is magnified.

Check the M42 to K-mount adaptor. If it is the type that fits entirely inside the K-mount on the camera (i.e. the camera body is flush with the back of the lens) then it should focus as normal. If it is the type that has a wide flange that sits against the back of the lens and makes the lens sit slightly proud of the camera body, then the lens will not focus to infinity as it is now a different distance from the sensor. Always use the flush-fitting type of adpators and you should have no issues. I have one fixed permanently to each fo my M42 lenses and they work just like k-mounts.

Well I can get a used one body-only for £229, which would be fine as I've already got an 18-55 kit lens from my K100D, plus the 18-55 WR I use on my K7.

Was hoping I might be able to get something sub-200 though
I would snatch the seller's hand off at £229, assuming it's in good nick and not too many shutter actuations. Is that delivered or extra for delivery?

I've got fed up and given up even looking now. Some 'official' feedback on why so many delays would be good, I suspect it is due to backlog and sheer volume, but why can't they post a simple message on the website informing us of the situation?

Ah that'll be why then

Definitely need that K-x methinks. So, anyone got one going cheap?
I think you will struggle to get a good K-x 'cheap' as they hold their value fiercely well! However, I did notice that on ebay SRS Microsystems had some brand new at £319 including free delivery, kit lens and 2 year warranty. You won't find a good second hand one much cheaper than that.

Breathtaking shots, put mine to shame.

Only thing is, my 300mm lens only cost £20 (40 year old Tamron Adaptamatic F5.6 300mm in mint condition), so I suppose I'm expecting too much. link

I will have to try harder.
