As the title says really! Bear in mind I'm a poor student so as cheap as possible would be good

That's what I've heard! It was a toss-up between that and a K-r, basically I want a "cheap" body to replace my K100D as my "take anywhere" camera and especially when I do nightclub photography as the K7 is a) a bit too expensive to be running around a club with and b) terrible over ISO400.

To be honest, this whole high-ISO issue seems to vary from body to body... I'm convinced that some of them are just off a bad batch, mine being one of them lol. Could also be due to revisions in the sensor as well, and I might just have an early one.

Low light, and artificial light, can produce more noise at high ISOs. For me though, the K7 is fine up to ISO1250...

Ah that'll be why then

Definitely need that K-x methinks. So, anyone got one going cheap?

GX20 ISO 1600.... I think with the current strides in software noise reduction ISO capabilities are a little irrelevant now. Both these shot under very poor lighting conditions...

Or k100d at ISO 3200...

I think you will struggle to get a good K-x 'cheap' as they hold their value fiercely well! However, I did notice that on ebay SRS Microsystems had some brand new at £319 including free delivery, kit lens and 2 year warranty. You won't find a good second hand one much cheaper than that.

Well I can get a used one body-only for £229, which would be fine as I've already got an 18-55 kit lens from my K100D, plus the 18-55 WR I use on my K7.

Was hoping I might be able to get something sub-200 though

I would snatch the seller's hand off at £229, assuming it's in good nick and not too many shutter actuations. Is that delivered or extra for delivery?

A LOT of activity in the classifieds tonight it would seem! And a couple of interesting PMs with options, although more are always welcome

I did consider the body at £229, not too high shutter count either, I'm just not sure I can justify spending such a large chunk of my loan on it... money only came in today! Haha

So yeah, any other offers are still welcome

I sold my k-x as I didn't think the final image quality was as good as my GX20 (K20d) So I would think you may be dissapointed particularly when it came to skin tones etc...

Also the handling on a k-x is totally different to the semi pro bodies, I preferred the handling on the k-r to the k-x & I thought there was a massive difference between the k-x & k-r both in responsiveness & usability...

Well I quite like the handling of my K100D (more or less the same layout-wise as the K-x) for more or less "auto" work, I don't really need the features of the K-7 when I'm out and about.

I took the K7 out last night and spent the night shooting at 1600; got home with a bunch of poor quality shots - noisy as hell, and absolutely no edge definition whatsoever. Lightroom's NR helped with the noise but the edges were unrecoverable.

I DEFINITELY need something with better low light performance, even just a stop or two. So yeah, last call for a K-x around the £200 mark, or less with a high shutter count

EDIT: Just used this, http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/studiocompare.asp, stick it on RAW @ 1600 and flick between the K7, Kx and the Kr; the K7 looks like a joke in comparison lol.
