The viewfinder is really easy to remove and clean (use a blower, not liquid cleaner) - this should not be a reason for you selling your camera! The K-m takes superb images and if I were you I would keep it as a second body even if you get an upgrade. You can then keep the 18-55 on one body and a telephoto on the other.

At £185 it is a bargain for someone, assuming it's in good order with not too many shutter actuations.

Hi Darren, welcome to the community! Looking at your pics and also the one you posted on the Gallery I would tend to agree that on the duck shots it's the water that has created the issue. Your Gallery picture had bright sky as the main background and this too can upset the exposure. My best advice would be:

1. Always take a test shot (if you have time) and bracket your exposures whenever possible

2. Use the Histogram to review your test shot and learn to read this correctly (your manual will explain this)

3. For tricky subjects like the duck on the water it may be an idea to set your camera to spot metering

4. Don't be afraid to use your camera's manual mode - most of my pics are shot in manual as it gives ultimate control over exposure and there's no chance of the settings changing when you recompose the scene

Hope this is helpful!

David

I've been reading this thread with some interest, particularly as in the next year I plan to buy a K-5, not to replace my K-x but as my primary body, with the K-x being retained as additional. However, something quite different has caused me to reconsider. I recently bought my son a K-x (second hand) to replace his K-m, as he has poor eyesight and was struggling to focus in some situations without a Live View facility.

I have picked up his K-m and have been using it for a week or so. Despite it being a lower resolution than the K-x, I have been very impressed with its image quality, especially for portraits and landscapes. I think this may be because it has a CCD sensor (not CMOS like the K-x) and this type of sensor gives pictures a more organic quality. I've seen similar opinions of the K10 - what do others think?

Hi all, this forum topic is primarily aimed at the Moderators whom I am hoping can assist me. Today I cannot log onto the pentaxuser.co.uk website as my IP address seems to have been blocked. The message I get from all PC's at home is:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Host '192.168.0.1' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts' in /home/pentax/pentaxuser.co.uk/libs/php/puconfig.php on line 51 Host '192.168.0.1' is blocked because of many connection errors; unblock with 'mysqladmin flush-hosts'

I have the same problem with my own foliopic website, but not for any other sites. I suspect the foliopic sites are hosted by the same ISP as the pentaxuser web site?

The only way I can log onto either of these sites is if I first open a VPN connention to my work and then connect to the web via the office IP address.

I think this needs the service provider to unblock the connection from my IP Address - can anyone assist with this?

Many thanks in advance of any assistance given.

Regards
David

No issues with mine, although I thought I had a problem when I first used it. I later pinpointed the problem to my K-x which needed the autofocus adjusting (images taken with the 55-300 on my K-m were razor-sharp, but on the K-x were soft). After adjusting the AF to '+70' in the debug menu it now works perfectly.

I use the Silkypix software to convert from RAW to Jpeg and do some basic processing (like a little noise reduction or exposure compensation for example), but then all my other processing is carried out in Paint.net, a very basic free application which does everything I need it to in a very simple interface.

I don't find the Silkypix software buggy at all - it does what it needs to do and uses minimal resources on the PC.
