I've now got my K-m back from a short period loaned to a friend and have checked the 'bulb mode with remote' capability. It only works with certain remotes and requires that the remote button is kept pressed down, as opposed to the K-x which allows the shutter to remain open until the remote shutter button is pressed a second time.

Not sure if this is relevant since you now have a K-5, but it may be useful information to other K-m owners.

Best wishes
David

I am always trying to think of a unique approach to a picture and always think I have failed when I see the result.

However, just thinking about this tonight, I probably haven't failed as every picture is unique and is particular to the photographer's point of view and style.

Regarding software, it should be seen as a tool and not a way of pushing the boundaries of photography in terms of the type and style of images we take. We all use software to process our pictures just as we use cameras to take them. For me, I don't like to play about too much with my images, I try to get them right in the camera if I can. The software just applies the finishing touches, even if this is HDR as i always try to make it look 'natural'.

As for a photographer 'creating a masterpiece with a new and unique technique', I think we all do this with every picture we take to some extent. We are all different and this is what makes photography or any type of art great.

I always carry both K-5 and K-x, usually with a 16-45 on the K-5 and 55-300 on K-x, but when on a wildlife walk I will take a fixed 300mm and the 55-300. It is amazing how many shots you can get that you would otherwise miss and the K-x is still an amazing little DSLR, very close to the K-5 image quality in most circumstances.

I must be getting this mixed up with the K-x - I'll check it again on the K-m when I get it back (it's out on loan at present), but as you've got a shiny new K-5 (nice) I suppose it's all academic!

I have to say that the lens Charlotte is offering for sale is a stellar performer - probably the best IQ of any lens I own. Not only is it great for Macro, but for tight landscapes and portraits it is fantastic. The detail levels resolved at apertures from about 3.5 upwards are unrivalled by any of my other lenses.

Superb.

Hi John, you can set the K-m to fire on the remote, set the dial to 'bulb' and it will open the shutter with the first press on the Infra-red remote and close it with the second one. This means you can extend the exposure to any time you wish. Bulb mode is not just 30 seconds, it allows any exposure time. The longest exposure without 'bulb' is 30 seconds.

Any remote compatible with the camera will do.

Hope this helps!

has anyone here made then upgrade from the kx? Already have a small collection of glass so seems to be the natural route to take.
Yes, I have upgraded from the K-x, but have also kept the K-x too. I can confirm:

- K-5 transforms autofocus with a 55-300 lens - no more hunting!!
- K-5 is significantly faster to respond
- K-5 has better colour depth and detail
- K-5 can retain more dynamic range
- K-5 is significantly better built
- K-5 is far better with old 'manual' lenses and makes these an absolute pleasure to use (more accurate exposure, brighter viewfinder)
- K-5 has a better LCD screen
- K-5 has a built-in level (it works great on mine and is accurate)
- K-5 ROCKS!!

However, K-x is a fantastic camera and I will not be selling it anytime soon.

I have a couple of the 7 day shop ND filters and I don't think they are bad at all considering the cost. Don't buy these if you are expecting them to compete with a Lee big stopper in terms of the amount of light they will effectively exclude. If you turn them too far, you will get dark banding, but used with care they produce good images with very little colour cast. They do add some warmth (often good for landscapes) and rob some sharpness (as all filters do), but on balance I'm happy with mine and will use them when conditions demand. Having said this, most of the time I find a simple polariser is the best general filter for landscapes.
