And how few images you get on a 4Mb SD card
It would be very difficult to get even 1 single image from a 16Mp sensor on that card I'd say
I think Floggit was meaning a 4gb card, not a 4mb one!

Comment by davidstorm posted on Is now a good time to upgrade to a K-5? at 19/05/2012 - 09:30

It wasn't a K-5 as it had a mode dial on the right of the top plate and also did not have an LCD panel. It looked more like a K-x?

Can anyone positively identify it?

I don't think you would get much better image quality from a newer 50mm as the old Ricoh / Pentax (and many other makes) lenses are excellent when it comes to IQ.

You are right John! I can't take anything on that channel seriously, but it's sometimes quite entertaining in a wierd, twisted sort of way

I don't think DigitalRev TV is scientific proof of anything, except that they are very biased towards Canon cameras!

Hi Spiritwalker and welcome!

Regarding UV filters, from experience it depends on the lens!

- The 55-300 seems to hate filters of any kind - they ruin the sharpness (even UV ones). Take the filter off and the lens is totally transformed
- DA 16-45 works great with or without - it seems especially good with a circular polariser

In general, you will lose a little sharpness with most lenses if a filter is fitted, but it all depends on what you're shooting and whether the risk of damaging the element or surround is worth it for getting slightly better results by shooting without the UV on the front.

This is one of those subjects that really does divide opinion.

Brilliant shots Charlotte. Are all of these with just the lens, or are any with tubes added?

I don't think the subscription is much to pay and I don't think we should begrudge paying it. The website has to be funded somehow and I for one get a lot of pleasure from it by posting pictures, commenting on pictures posted by others, entering competitions and contributing to the forum now and again.

I have learned a lot from the knowledgeable people on this site and also made some great new friends.

I think it is just a wee bit under-exposed, I don't think the position of the grad is wrong. With a bit more exposure, this would have been a lovely image and the sky would not have been too bright.

I think you could do no better for £100 than to buy Charlotte's Sigma 50mm F 2.8 Macro (manual focus) lens. A superb lens that is also great for portraits and tight landscape shots. It is 1:1 true macro and also works well with a 2x teleconverter if you have good light and want more working distance.
