Bulb Mode K-m

Sorry if this has been covered before I had a search around but did not find an answer.

On the K-m there is no socket for a wired remote (unless its well hidden!) bulb mode goes to 30 seconds. If I want to expose for several minutes for a star shot maybe how can I create this?
I have tried my cheapo IR remote from fleabay but but it seems to be momentary connection. Do I need a different remote, I have checked the options in settings as mentioned on a thread for K-x but my setting do not have these options.
How have folks got around this please?

Hi John, you can set the K-m to fire on the remote, set the dial to 'bulb' and it will open the shutter with the first press on the Infra-red remote and close it with the second one. This means you can extend the exposure to any time you wish. Bulb mode is not just 30 seconds, it allows any exposure time. The longest exposure without 'bulb' is 30 seconds.

Any remote compatible with the camera will do.

Hope this helps!

Thanks david, its driving me nuts have read so many posts about it.
I have set the camera to bulb but the cheapo ebay remote just does a quick shutter even if you hold the button down. I have checked all the memus to see if this can be changed, but nothing. Think I just need another remote. I really wanted one that you can set the shutter duration on but am afraid to waste my money if it does not work.
Really getting back into this camera stuff now and can see me upgrading to a K5 as I am finding the limitations of an entry lever DSLR

I have a K-x. I'm not sure about the K-m but on the K-x you can tell it to open the shutter on the first press of the remote and the close on the second press. This is in a menu somewhere and it's what i used last 5th Nov. Hopefully this option is on the K-m.

Not an option in the K-m !
Problem is solved, my beautiful girl friend has brought me a shiny new K-5 this morning from Carmarthen Cameras

She thought I was being cheeky when I said we could have £40 each from the cash back offer. And to think I let her have my K-m too.

I must be getting this mixed up with the K-x - I'll check it again on the K-m when I get it back (it's out on loan at present), but as you've got a shiny new K-5 (nice) I suppose it's all academic!

Cheers

The K-m camera manual suggests this should be possible but my remote doesn't hold the shutter open either. It only does this if you keep the button on the camera pressed down.

I've got a wired remote for the K-5 which has a lock button to do this, but there is nowhere to plug that remote in to the K-m.

Enjoy your K-5!

I've now got my K-m back from a short period loaned to a friend and have checked the 'bulb mode with remote' capability. It only works with certain remotes and requires that the remote button is kept pressed down, as opposed to the K-x which allows the shutter to remain open until the remote shutter button is pressed a second time.

Not sure if this is relevant since you now have a K-5, but it may be useful information to other K-m owners.

Best wishes
