I agree with the comments above about the review being 'rubbish'. Although I don't own a K-r, I know a lot of people who do and I also have 3 K-x's, none of which exhibit the exposure issues mentioned. There is always skill required on behalf of the photographer to ensure highlights are not blown and I personally choose to shoot at 1/3 stop under-exposed, but this is purely my preference and nothing to do with the cameras.

I also find that the K-x has plenty of leeway to recover shots when shooting in RAW, but there it's always more difficult with blown highlights than with under-exposed areas. Best bet is to shoot test images, check the histogram and adjust if necessary. It costs nothing but a little time to do this and it's all part of learning to use the equipment properly, regardless of the camera.

Best wishes

Any interest in the K-x? It will be on ebay in a week or so but I would rather it sold to someone on this site.

I've just got one in the last weekish. I have the 50mm version also. I'm finding it to be a focus noisey hunter, the 50 can be also. The working distance is usefull but its taking some getting used to!! I find myself moving meself back n forwards as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. Iq is not in question. It's a cracking lens and I really like the way it handles.
Thanks for the reply Daz, the focus hunting will not bother me at all as I will rarely use the lens in autofocus mode (all my macros are shot using manual focus). I think the general view is that it is a good lens, as are most macros.

The Gallery automatically compresses and re-sizes images uploaded and the result is a maximum of 1,000 pixels wide by whatever height according to the aspect ratio of the image. The resulting pictures are often a pale shadow of the originals, but I can understand why this is done, i.e. to reduce loading times when viewing them and to save space.

Hi David

It's a stunning lens and as others have said - not just for macro - I find it is a great lens for mid range street shots and candids.

Thanks Carl, I will give it a go in different situations to see what it can do. At the moment I can't wait for Saturday to really put it through it's macro paces with some tubes attached to see how close I can get!

Thanks for the comments and advice guys, especially George. For some reason, the one I've bought is minus the hood but I don't really understand why it needs one as the element is so far recessed. I've tried it out tonight, but the light was a little poor. First impressions are good, although as George mentions, the DOF is wafer-thin and I think this lens will be used alongside my 50mm macro rather than replacing it (I love the 50mm macro by the way, it's a great lens).

Good evening all

I've just managed to acquire a mint copy of the Sigma 105mm F2.8 DG EX Macro lens, bought as a package with a DSLR. I would be grateful for anyone with experience of this lens to post some opinions on its abilities and whether or not you rate it. Also useful would be your tips on getting the best from it!

Thanks in advance.

David

For sale is my treasured Pentax K-x with the 18-55 kit lens (also optional DA L 50-200mm lens if required), all in perfect working order and no cosmetic damage to either the body or the lens. The reason for selling is that I have acquired another camera bought as a package with a lens I wanted, so I now have 4 DSLR's and I don't need this many!!

K-x + 18-55 £240 + postage of your choice
optional extra DA L 50-200mm £40, so the camera + both lenses £280

I will be listing on ebay shortly if it doesn't sell here.

The camera was purchased brand new on 30/04/2011 and has a shutter count just shy of 8300. A large number of the images in my gallery portfolio were shot with this camera, so please have a browse for confirmation. Details are:

- K-x Body with cap for Bayonet mount
- DA L 18-55 kit lens (replacement front cap as I lost the original)
- Optional DA L 50-200mm lens with original front and rear cap
- Original Box, Strap, Manual, Disks, PC Cable
- 4gb Memory Card
- Free 'Pentax Digital' holster case as a bonus (used once only)

Please PM me if interested; I will not be listing this for more than a week at this price on the Forum. I'm not sure if pics are required as this is just like any other K-x, but will post a link if anyone wants to see.

Best wishes
David

I have a K-5, a K-x and a K-m and have had no issues at all with any of them, apart from the K-x needed a hacked autofocus adjustment of +230!!! Yes, it was that far out on autofocus, whereas the K-5 and K-m are absolutely spot-on.

K-5 level is accurate, no lock-ups, no staining, nothing wrong at all. The K-m is just a pleasure to use (except it's a bit slow) and has the most beautiful sensor (as long as you don't push the ISO) and apart from the focus adjustment, the K-x is sensational for the price.

Oh, and I have bought some fabulous lenses for very little money.

I love my Pentax gear and will not be changing to any other brand.

David
