The only way to really test this properly is to set up the camera and lens on a tripod in decent light and shoot some images head-on at a test chart or another suitable static subject. Alter the AF Fine Adjustment, view the images side by side in Photoshop and continue to adjust until pin sharpness is achieved.

You may need to go into the debug menu to make a wider adjustment than the AF Fine adjustment gives, but this is only if there is a general issue with the camera on all lenses, as opposed to a specific issue with a particular lens. If the lens will not adjust correctly within the AF Fine adjustment setting and your other lenses are fine, the only other option is to get the lens checked and repaired if necessary.

It's a nice image Stan. I don't know the exact viewpoint you took this from, but for me the best improvement would have been to include some foreground detail (rocks at water's edge etc) and then the amount of sky would not have been so prominent. This would have made for a more balanced image.

I'm quite fond of scrambling over rocks in the middle of fast flowing rivers and streams, not very sensible, but it's the only way to get some different angles and shots that most other people don't bother with!

Shaun's already mentioned the Lakes; I usually come back from there with wet feet!

I bought one second hand from a forum member a couple of months back and it has not been off my camera since. For everyday use, it is superb. IQ has surpassed my expectations - it is better than the 16-45 that I previously owned and the 16-45 is pretty darned good in my experience.

The seller of the lens I now own had mentioned some focussing hesitancy between 50 and 70mm prior to me purchasing it. Since I've owned it I have not experienced any problems at all, even in very poor light. I've used it on the K-x, the K-5 and the K-5IIs, all with successful results.

It is one hell of a good HDR John and is the perfect subject for this type of work. The only slight observation I have is that the red tones tend to dominate a bit; this is something I've noticed with HDR's that I have done with Photomatix, so I tend to tone the reds down a little when using this software.

That's nitpicking though, it's a great image.

It's a very beautiful image Alistair and it's very difficult to offer advice on 'improving' it as any such advice will be subjective and none of us will agree!

Only two things spring to my mind:

1. There's a little too much sky in comparison to land - a crop of the top section would help to balance it, despite the sky being so beautifully rendered and having such great cloud formations

2. Some areas of sky are burned out, just above the tree line. Not having the benefit of seeing a RAW file, I don't know if this can be recovered, but I would certainly attempt a re-process by adding some shadow detail and removing some highlights to try and retain detail in all of the sky areas, whilst dragging a little more out of the shadows.

I hope this helps Alistair; the image is lovely as it is but can be improved I think.

I saw two near to York Minster this morning - a K30 in a fetching burgundy and a K-r in black.

As normal I lost count of the Canons and Nikons.

I've just bought a Sigma 28mm F2.8 Mini Wide Macro lens (MF) in pretty much mint condition, with original case, from a charity shop. I would be interested in hearing the views of anyone who owns (or has owned) this lens.

I've taken a couple of test shots on my K-5IIs and it seems very sharp right from F2.8.

Is it one that's worth keeping?

David
