I think the question you should be asking is whether you would jump from a K-5IIs to a D800? Is it worth spending another £1200 or so? Only you can answer that question! Also, what is around the corner from Pentax? I think you would regret dreadfully a decision to jump now, only to find out a few months later that Pentax have brought out new models, including a FF model. There is no harm in hanging on until the end of the year to see what happens. Your K-5's and K-5IIs have served you well so far Shaun haven't they? The risk and expense in jumping now are far higher than waiting a while and then jumping if the next Pentax models do not do what you want.

Do you think that Pentax will not significantly advance on the next round of releases?

David

The SMC 135 lens is superb, I know because I owned one, although it got sold because I didn't use it enough. However, it is not suited to this type of shot. You will get CA and fringing with most of the old lenses, the more contrast between subject and background, the greater the risk of fringing. Used carefully, you will get stunning results from this lens, but it has to be exposed correctly and on the right type of subject. Portraits for example, or still life flowers with a suitable background. Here's one shot with the SMC K135 and K-5:

Another vote for the Aputure triggers from me, they are superb for the money and work perfectly, even at long distances. They seem pretty well made too.

I wouldn't worry too much about the strap, I've bought a couple of 'Caden Quickstraps', the neoprene over the shoulder type, £4.15 each including free delivery from China. They are superb quality for the money and much better / easier to use than the standard straps.

As for the buttons, I've never had any problem with any of them, they seem of good quality to me and work very well, but I haven't had a K-7, so I can't compare.

Cheers

It's a well documented and fairly common occurrence with the K-5, only option is to send it off for repair I think. It's a shame the warranty is out.

ah but how many do we know were bought for £50?

I'll give you £80.
It's irrelevant what Dave paid for it and whilst this may have been said in jest, it didn't come across that way. All power to him that he managed to buy this for £50 - after all how many people do you see on Antiques Roadshow selling something later at cost that has been valued at five times that amount?

The 1.7x adaptor is worth what someone will pay for it and I'm sure someone will pay well over £200.

Best of luck with the sale Dave, I hope you get your full asking price.

David
