At Delamere Forest yesterday. This place is alive with Wildlife, especially if you venture away from the beaten track. All with the K-5iis and Pentax DFA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR.

Hi Cedric, I use a Redsnapper all the time and have used it extensively with the K-5 and Sigma 150-500 combination. I use it with just the standard head and find it very good indeed, it holds the weight without an issue and is very stable. You could always buy the Redsnapper and get a head from elsewhere?

Here's an endorsement for the M28mm F3.5 - what a great lens for not much money. I would not part with mine for £100, let alone £50!

Anyone who's remotely into landscape shooting should buy one of these.

The AF locks as long as I keep the button half pressed, Nigel. I can't recall setting it up that way but it's how my cameras have always worked in AF-S mode.
Why not just use the back AF button Will and disregard the half-shutter press altogether? I find this very fast and flexible and the focus stays firmly locked after recomposing.

The K-m is a beautiful landscape tool, lovely fluid images with warm colours. However, I found everything else about it a little frustrating - slow to respond, very poor at ISO's above 400 (not very good at 400 either) and battery life not very good.

The K30 would be a massive step up, as would the K-5. At current K-5 prices, I might be tempted to go for this in preference to a K30, but the K30 probably has the superior AF. Even better if you could stretch to a K-5II as the AF on the later models is much more reliable.

On mine it's not the speed that's poor, it's more the inconsistency of focus and hesitancy, particularly on the DA 17-70.

I don't think the speed should be any less on a camera that's done 11,000 clicks compared to a new one. Maybe Pentax have attempted to compensate for known focussing issues via firmware updates and this may have involved actually slowing down the AF and making it more deliberate?

It's a good suggestion to move it to the latest firmware and then check again, but you might be reluctant to do this if you think it's working better on the old firmware!

Thanks David. Tongue in cheek. Don't mean to spoil a thread containing these good photos
No problems Alan, I have no hang ups about discussing the AF on my K-5! Also don't forget the Siggy 150-500 has a 'quick shift' feature that does rescue the situation if AF is not quite there - this gets used quite a bit!

Sorry about that Drew I had no intention of altering your wardrobe

Thanks all for the comments received so far, much appreciated, especially as I'm new to this genre of photography.
