Hi Cedric, I use a Redsnapper all the time and have used it extensively with the K-5 and Sigma 150-500 combination. I use it with just the standard head and find it very good indeed, it holds the weight without an issue and is very stable. You could always buy the Redsnapper and get a head from elsewhere?

I use a manfrotto 393 on a 190xprob for k-5ii fitted with Sigma 150-500. Might be worth a look.

I keep saying this but I think nobody ever listens.
Look at BENBO or better still Uni-Lok developed by the same people after they were taken over. The Uni-Lok is slightly better.
They are both quite heavy and a bit like a demented octopus until you get used them but when you do you'll never want anything else. The bottom legs are waterproof. You'd need the 1700 series. Then you can fit any head you want.

See what I mean. The BEST people use Uni-Lok / Benbo.
"All" the newer ones with their moveable centre columns are IMO copies of the Uni-Lok / Benbo design.

Hi, Vic, I am with you on this one, I have used the same Benbo Trekker for the last 10 years if not more. It's my one and only tripod as well.

The head you use will be the deciding factor on weight. The Uni-Lok / Benbo will support almost anything you put on it. Like I said they are a little bit heavy, but in that comes their strength and weight carrying capacity.

I can't tell you what weight it would hold, but it looks as though it's hefty enough to carry anything a Pentax User could throw at it.
Have you thought of a monopod? It could take the weight off just enough and yet leave you free to move more easily.

Legs aren't long enough to get to eye level without extending the central column which you don't really want to with a heavy lens.

Now that's an idea that John has. A monopod with a gimble would be OK.

I'm in the Uni-lok user club too, Vic.
The amazing flexibility (if that's the right word to use in connection with a tripod) in positioning is the big advantage for me.
