I just wanted to say a big Thank You to David Storm for taking time out of his Saturday evening to calibrate my lenses for me tonight, and all for a couple of bottles of beer.

The one thing I have noticed since joining this forum, is how helpful other members have been, and as a bonus how many friendships I have developed.

Long live the Pentax Brotherhood....oh and the Sisterhood too!

Thanks again David
Thanks you too Drew, there really was no need to post a 'thanks' on the Forum, but I appreciate you doing so.

Likewise I have made many friends from this website, some of them now moved over to pastures new but still remain friends.

I hope your camera is now sorted, if not don't worry as there is still more we could do to get it 100%.

Looking forward to the next Peak District day out, let's hope it snows!

Cheers
David

55-300 might be optically 7/10 but for the price paid it might be 9/10. Appreciate there might be other factors for people like weight.

I imagine using this lens primarily more for landscapes at sunrise / sunset so would guess low light capabilities to be more useful to me than say AF speed.
I would rate the 55-300 higher than 7/10 optically, it's a very sharp lens and ideally suited to isolating portions of a landscape, which is I think the use you are describing. If you take a look at my Gallery portfolio on this site there are a fair few landscapes shot with the DA L 55-300, some examples are:

Nice shots John, I like the symmetry in 2 and the overall effect in 3. I haven't used Photomatix in ages, but on the odd occasion I find it is good for BW portraits when a certain effect is required.

Firstly, thank you for the 'thanks' Tim! Secondly, thanks also to you for posting a great set of images; the two you refer to from the meet in January I remember well!

My favourite from this set is 'The Jetty', a lovely example of BW and long exposure.

An excellent set of images, very creatively and expertly shot. Some of the processing is not to my taste, but this doesn't detract from the quality of the shots.

Nice to see a decent 'street' set on here.
