The poor old DA L (plastic mount) version of the 55-300 lens often comes in for a bit of stick and I see constant recommendations to buy the DA metal mount version. However, I love my DA L 55-300 and I've taken what I would consider some of my best landscape shots with this lens. So, I thought I'd post just a few of some that I like!

Is a RAW file not just that? RAW camera sensor data with no processing or manipulation? If there was processing & manipulation (eg noise reduction going on) surely for it to have any effect the RAW data would need to be 'rendered' into a pixel-based image, so it would no longer be a RAW file.
If that were the case Nigel, why do RAW files from cameras of different manufacture, but using the same sensor look so different from each other?

A very nice set Nigel, I especially like the one of the Acer in front of the glass, the contrasts of colour and form work so well.

You mean to say you are considering buying more kit Jules? I'm shocked!

On a serious note, unless you intend to do a lot of indoor shooting in low light, of subjects that don't move or only move very slowly, I don't think you will need focus peaking.

I don't think either the K-5iis or the K50 could be thought of as a lightweight setup, but my preference would be a K-5iis for all sorts of reasons.

I already have a K3 and K-5iis and love them both, trouble is I always want to take both of them out with me!

How can a camera 'apply' NR to its RAW file? Surely any noise reduction parameter inputs can only be effected by a rendering process, such as an in-camera conversion to JPEG or TIFF, or upon opening in a computer programme that can read the NR metadata and provide a preview of the effect before rendering?
Are you seriously trying to suggest Nigel that the camera's production of a RAW file is not 'a rendering process'? I find that a very bizarre train of thought indeed. If it's not a rendering process, how is it produced?

I don't think there's magic and fairy dust involved!

Both good images, Daz, the colour balance in the first Church one looks right to me, the adjusted version is not natural, the stone of the Church looks all wrong. I agree that the blue would be there in real life as it is reflecting from the sky.

I also agree about the back lane shot - great perspective.

I was on the point of selling my Metz PTTL flash until I got the K-3 because I thought it was rubbish! Truth is it was the K-5's that were letting it down. Good thing though is that this forced me to buy a couple of Neewer manual 560 Speedlights - these cost less than £30 each and are superb for what they cost.

The Metz will get used more now though, because I can trust the results on the K-3, which have been excellent on every single shot taken so far.

It is a beautiful shot Steve, one of the best Lion images I've seen and that includes some pretty special ones by Puma.
