So why don't they do it then?
Some do Adrian, but many don't. I can't understand why some avoid putting any images on the Gallery and / or never look at the Gallery. Some bemoan the lack of quality on the Gallery, as I did in the opening to this post, but at least I do try and contribute some images, whilst being conscious not to overload it. Surely, if we are to improve the overall quality, the best photographers on here need to start posting a few of their best images?

I have no illusions about my photographic skill and artistic ability, I know I am not one of the best, but I strive to improve and I feel it's important to put my images forward for comment, both on the Gallery and on the Forum. Perhaps I need to move on somewhere else, but I do like the site and at the moment I just don't have enough spare time to really think about my photography and push it to the next level. On that basis, I stick around.

David

Yep, that's a very good flower shot. Colours, details and composition all spot on.

See other post: link.

I think my comments might be justified!

Well, I have to say I am a bit gobsmacked. After the post I raised about 'What has happened?' where I asked some questions about why things on the site and the Forum had possible 'gone downhill' a bit recently, that particular thread has received 8 pages of responses so far.

Several of the responses were along the lines of 'if you want comments, post images in the 'Your Photos' section of the Forum, if you don't want comments, post in 'The Gallery'. Well, I took the time and trouble to make a set of images using the new Pentax 1.4 TC because I thought people might be interested to see how it performed and guess what?

Not one person has commented! I think this justifies my thread about what's happening on the site lately. In contrast, I got a lot of comments about one of the images above when I posted it in the Gallery.

Everyone knows I don't get offended by comments on my images, so why no responses and critique?

David

I like the compositions Alistair but I'm not sure that lens is doing you any favours. I found with my K-x when using manual lenses that I had to under-expose quite a bit to prevent blown highlights and it seems your K-x is not metering too well with this lens.

Also I've noticed that most of the shots you have posted with the 28mm F2.8 look quite soft, this is not a trait that your images with other lenses show. I hope this doesn't come across too critical as I do like the images, it's just that I think they would have been better shot with a different lens!

Thanks to you all for contributing to a very interesting thread - it's been more like the old days on this one!

I really like the image and I think it would work very well as a wrap around book cover. That's all I have to say!

Sorry for not commenting earlier Nigel, been a bit short of time this weekend until this evening.

I would echo what a lot of people have already said. Number 7 and its resulting children are the only ones that catch my eye and the reason is that they have a lead-in, which the others do not. I do feel that your images in general lack some of the finer compositional details and as a result they look a bit one dimensional. I think you need to make much more use of foreground interest, particularly when shooting with the 14mm lens, so that there is something to lead the eye into the image.

I find it hard to comment on the processing as I think struggle to see the relevance if the image is not 'right' in camera.

I applaud you once again Nigel for opening yourself up to scrutiny and for creating some interest on the Forum!

David

I've had the 1.4 TC for a few days now and got the chance today to put it through its paces. As usual, due to work that had to be done, I was confined to the garden, but I find endless opportunities here.

These are a mix of the DA*300 and the DFA 100 F2.8 Macro WR, both teamed up with the TC. I have to say I am very impressed by this little bit of kit - yes it does have a very slight effect on IQ, but it's barely noticeable when it's used with quality glass. All shots are with the K-3.

Please comment, positive or negative, I will not get offended!

Hi Don

If the problem does re-occur I wouldn't discount the battery as the cause. If it is not giving out the correct voltage it could easily be causing problems. Also, don't read too much into similar issues reported on other Forums, a 'lock-up' is not a definitive problem and could be because of umpteen different things.
