K-x and M 28mm 2.8

In all of these the highlights seem a little blown out. That may be your thing, I dunno. If not is there facility on the K-x to prevent this or possibly consider dropping the exposure a tad?

I know that running a manual lens on the K-r I couldn't always trust the in-camera exposure. It was good but sometimes a notch out.

My favourite is the last. Again though, I feel that reducing the exposure slightly might have brought out a little more detail in the sky. Problem I have from my end is that we may just have a difference in monitor output

I often dial in a -0.7EV when using manual lenses, just in case.

Your not the first to say that in the last few days. Perhaps its my taste because I never find it off putting. It is difficult however, as you know to expose for sky and ground, as one must suffer over the other. The manual lens MAY just tip it slightly and I will look at that more closely next time.

I like the compositions Alistair but I'm not sure that lens is doing you any favours. I found with my K-x when using manual lenses that I had to under-expose quite a bit to prevent blown highlights and it seems your K-x is not metering too well with this lens.

Also I've noticed that most of the shots you have posted with the 28mm F2.8 look quite soft, this is not a trait that your images with other lenses show. I hope this doesn't come across too critical as I do like the images, it's just that I think they would have been better shot with a different lens!

Not to any practical degree these days. Expose for the sky and there's plenty of dynamic range to bring up the shadows to give the "ground" a decent exposurewithout it being too noisy.

I agree of course Smeg on the sky technique but the K-x is a little shabby at regaining light in other areas. Im not averse to noise but its quite bad when you have to push it. I dont think the lens is that soft David but I accept where you are coming from. the DA 21 is on the cards at some stage!

Why not get yourself a K-5 ?

I have a Kx and a K5 and find the Kx produces images almost as good as the K5, particularly at high ISO...very clean and almost noise free.

Do I have a particularly good example?

I have a k5 just use the kx as my everyday camera.
