I've just shot this image on my K-3 with the DA*50-135, in our back garden this evening. We get some stunning sunsets and tonight's was particularly interesting. As I stood out there I heard the Geese approaching, heading back to the lakes in Rother Valley Country Park (which is next to our house). I took just one shot, which I rather like.

These are good, but don't quite have enough impact and 'crispness' for me. What lens was used? I think that they are lacking a little brightness / contrast and this could easily be fixed in processing, also they maybe could do with a little bit of sharpening?

As Nigel says, thanks for sharing them, I hope my comments don't appear harsh, as they're not intended to be.

A fine set, top quality. Surely you can't still feel disappointed with the K-3 after producing work like this? From the images I've seen you post on here, I think these are the best.

For me the last one is preferable. I've avoided commenting on this before now as I don't feel qualified, I'm no expert in portraits. However, I've succumbed to temptation and so I'll give an opinion based on what my gut feel is and what I like / don't like.

I don't like the feet, for me they clutter the image

I like the pose (except the feet)

I don't like the bright area of grass behind the people

I like the eyes in the third shot, but not in the first one

I'm not sure about the grass in front of the people, it is a little distracting, but not a massive issue for me

I like the natural setting

It's a nice image and one that a lot of people would be delighted with, so my critique may be harsh, but this is a photography Forum (isn't it?) and if we don't give honest feedback it's not worth giving any. If this were my shot I would get rid of the feet and crop it to a more letterbox format.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks for your comments.
I thought more people would go for the head shot. Is it just that one or head shots in general we don't like?

I think it's because we like to see the birds in context of their surroundings Barrie. Nothing wrong with the shot, it's nice and sharp, good colours etc., just not in context.

A lovely set, 2 and 3 for me are my personal favourites.
