Not my thing Fletcher but here you go .....
The the light grass hit me straight away, particularly at the back. Both left and right are darker, through vignette or flash fall off. While a band sown the centre is brighter
2nd thing is the boys face needs to be lightened up. Am I going a bit too far in saying the dirt in the tread of his shoes could do with sorting?

Possibly the feet don't need to be there at all, they distract from the faces. Nothing about the grass bothers me, but the contrast looks slightly flat in the faces of the two females. Overall though it's a very good picture and their eye contact dominates it.

I agree with RussV that the feet don't need to be in shot, the image is generally good, by losing the feet, would have allowed a closer crop either in camera or PP.
It looks like you've done some PP on the eyes of your subjects and that they are quite over whitened, particularly the boys eyes and the girls to his right.
Other than that, I like the overall composition and feel of the image combined with the low POV.

I totally disagree. The feet are fine for me all I would do here is bootst the light in some places (the boys face for sure) and increase a little more colour.

Thanks guys, some interesting opinions and views. I do agree with the whites of their eyes, need to tone them down a little. I personally like the feet up in the air, but we all have our likes and dislikes.
I found that they relaxed more laying down and i could get better eye contact, but its all part of the learning process in terms of positioning people.
Thanks for the feedback. What about the blanket for future shots, keep it or lose it?
Many Thanks

Blanket is fine by me, didn't even notice it at first, but I would lose a bit of the grass at the top, so that theeyes are nearer 2/3 of the way up the picture
Everything changes!

You've messed up the eyes unfortunately Fletcher - looks like the aftereffects of a levels adjustment layer with masking gone a bit overboard. I think you've revealed the brighter under-layer too widely around the eyes - I'd suggest painting with a reduced opacity on your brush and tapering it as you reach the whites ending up with nothing just before the eyelids.
Poses and expressions are great for me - if I could get my lot like this I'd be very happy.
There's a slight greeny tinge to the skin tones I detect. Hope this all helps

The biggest wrong here for me is the shooting position. It would have been a much better result had the camera position been much lower. The little lad does not look comfortable at all. I also think the shoes add nothing to the image and I would consider some kind of vignette to hold the image.. Just my thoughts...

Thanks for all the critique guys, its good to get the views of others which I value.
Anyway here is my second attempt of the same image with a few tweaks people suggested
Nigel, thanks for the tips on the eyes. I need to practice with this.

A really pleasing shot. I'd have been well pleased with this. A dark vignette might tone down the grass a bit and focus our attention on the subjects. The eyes are much better in the revised version.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Another take on the similar image, just with different processing techniques giving the image a more rustic and warmer look. which of the two do people prefer?

Hi Fletchr8,
The last version for me. I think the warmer tones just suit the image better.
Great shot by the way.

Thanks Derek,
Starting to get more requests for outdoor family portraits, so I am trying to improve my processing and work towards obtaining my own style, which is not easy. I think I am on the right path though.

I took this over the weekend using a silver brolly reflector with two strobes. I know there are a few blades of distracting grass over the faces that I should have seen prior to taking the image, but I am looking for constructive feedback in relation to poses, editing that I could improve on.
I also think the blanket is a little distracting, but they were not happy to lay in the grass, due to a few bugs. Anyway C&C welcome.
Any questions please let me know.
Many Thanks
