First of all, please accept my apologies to everyone who has posted a set of 12 recently on which I haven't commented. I have had a particularly busy time of late and have spent only a few minutes a week on this site, so I haven't had the opportunity to look through them all, but I will do and will add my feedback too.

Secondly, I've taken a different route to most and have decided to re-visit shots already posted on the Gallery. The reason for this is that I know a lot of people don't look at the Gallery, so these will be new to many and also the Gallery shots represent those I particularly wanted to process during the past year. So here goes:

January - Our Winter Friend

February - The Photographer's Wife

March - A Conversation with a dog

April - The Essence of Spring

May - Bricks and Windows

June - Peek-a-boo

Just beautiful, the sky could be left as it is for me, but I agree that it would also look good with a crop.

You should have added 'it's a mess as far as user intuition and interaction goes, in my personal opinion' Nigel. I don't share that opinion and it's clear that a lot of Windows 8.1 users on here also don't share it.

Surprised to read the negative comments about Windows 7 from the two Davids. I have used Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit on two different PCs for several years, and for several hours most days, with no problems. Perhaps there are bugs affecting the professional version in an office networking environment?

Cheers.
Philip
Hi Phillip, the blue screen issues I mentioned are related to the Professional version, not sure if they affect the Home version or not. My post wasn't intended to be negative to Windows 7, but was to correct Nigel's inaccurate information about Windows 8/8.1 which may lead some people to avoid these operating systems for no good reason. Windows 8.1 is more stable than Windows 7, but if you're happy with Windows 7 and it is not crashing for you then there's no reason to upgrade to Windows 8.1

See other topic 'post your favourite photo taken this year', I think Peter's problem is a combination of Windows Vista, IE9 and AdBlock Plus. Would suggest to anyone using IE9 to upgrade to IE11, or switch to Google Chrome for all internet browsing as IE9 is a very poor release, full of bugs and has a lot of known issues which can cause similar problems to those being described by Peter.

Hi Peter, happy New Year to you too!

It may be the combination of IE9 and AdBlock Plus that is causing your issue. IE9 is a very buggy release, my recommendation would be upgrade to IE11 immediately, this should be a painless process, just download from the Windows Update site. Also, try turning off AdBlock and see if that makes any difference.

Also, you could try logging onto the PU website in Google Chrome and attempt the process again, my guess is that it would work OK from Chrome. The problem is nothing to do with the image size you are trying to upload, it should work for any image size, even the original full size straight from camera.

David

Edit: Just noticed you are using Windows Vista. IE9 is the latest version available on Vista and this is a problem, as mentioned above IE9 is buggy and has a lot of known issues. Vista is also very poor. Can you upgrade your Windows Operating System? If not, I would recommend switching to Google Chrome for your internet browsing.

It should be fine, but it must be a JPEG image and not too big. I use 1000 pixels wide and the forum changes this to fit, but it doesn't seem to noticeably degrade quality.

Could it be that your file size is too large?
Image size makes no difference. I upload original full size JPEG images stored on my PC hard drive and the upload process re-sizes them automatically to display in the Forum. Works every time for me, no problems.

It would be helpful to know the following from those having problems uploading images:

- Which PC Operating System are you using?
- Which Web Browser and version number are you using?
- Are you trying to upload an image stored on your hard drive, or are you trying to link to an image on a website?
- Do you get any error messages after clicking the 'insert image' button

Hi Peter

Are you trying to link to an image file stored on your PC hard drive, or are you linking to an image on a website?

Jemx99, why do you think you have heard so many people complain about windows 8?
Because it's different and it takes time to get used to it.

Windows 7, which IMO is the best OS to get for now. If you can get a machine with 7 or install it, or wait for 10 I am sure you won't regret it ... Get 8 and you sure will!
No, Windows 7 is very buggy in comparison with Windows 8. I have a lot of experience with this, across many PC's we operate at work. Windows 7 has a tendency to 'blue screen', Windows 8 doesn't. I can't comment on whether or not Elements 11 runs on Windows 8.

Even the basics like easy access to shutdown and switch user commands is a screw-up, and the constant too and froing back and forwards from the desktop to the 'start screen' drives me mad!
You clearly don't understand how to use Windows 8 Nigel, there is absolutely no need or reason to keep going to and fro from desktop to the start scree, I don't do this because I don't need to. You just need to set up your desktop properly and if you do so, you don't need to go back to the start screen. You can also set up Win8 to boot directly to the traditional desktop screen (which mine does) and then you only visit the start screen when you really want to.

People used to think the world was flat you know, if they sailed too far they would fall off the edge! Misunderstanding something does not mean that your opinions are factually correct.
