This is normal for a DA*50-135, the focus ring has no 'stop'.

I could go for k10/20d but would love a bot better high iso performance. I do realise however that on my budget the choice is restricted.
What are your thoughts on k-x?
The K-x is a brilliant little camera. Not weather sealed, no focus point lights in the viewfinder, plastic construction, but it takes superb images and is very good at high ISO's, not far short of a K-5 in this regard. I would not hesitate to recommend it, I have owned three K-x's and still have one which is on permanent loan to my son at present. The K-x is a Pentax classic of recent years.

I'm also a bit late seeing these, apologies for that Bill, but it was worth the wait I think! This is a fabulous set of images, I think 4, 7, 11 and 12 are absolute belters and the rest are not far behind.

I have the K-3 / 12-24 combination but unfortunately I've been so busy renovating the house this year that I haven't been able to do any photo shoots. I hope to remedy that next year and I certainly have something to aim at if I am to get anywhere near the quality of these images.

I will probably come back to view this post many times; it gives me a lot of food for thought.

Lovely set George, all are very good but I particularly like the ones of the trucks lined up.

These are very nice John, as Andy says nothing is burned out and that's quite difficult in bright sunlight.

My preference would have been to isolate the main subject more with either a darker background or a longer lens and a more diffused backdrop, but this is a personal preference on how I like to photograph flowers and not any criticism of your shots. Number 6 illustrates what I mean, this for me is the best combination of subject and background.

They are all also very sharp / well focussed and colours are bright and natural without being over-saturated.

Nice lens and nice shots Alistair, I think the Slieve Donard one shows off the capability of the lens the best. It is sharp in all areas. Might be good to give this lens a try on your K-5?

Great image, it's hard to take a shot of a car that grabs the attention, but this one does. Colours look fine to me.

The 16-45 is excellent, I've had two of them and both were very good. There were a couple of downsides I found though, one was the max aperture of F4 and the other was the limited zoom range which I found a little restrictive for a walkabout zoom. In the plus side it was a great lens for landscape photography.

I now have a Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4, the HSM OS version which I bought from AndrewA. I find this a lot more versatile and it excels in most situations. The F2.8 comes in handy when using it at the wider end.

PS: No-one has mentioned WR in this thread, despite you making reference to it. If you can find a good copy of the DA 18-55 WR, it will cost a lot less than your budget and is a decent lens. The later DA 18-55's seem to get better press than the earlier versions and WR is a good idea if you do a lot of photography outside.

Sublime shots Danny, I love the natural colours and the lovely clean, diffused backgrounds. I have a pet hate for busy backgrounds on wildlife shots, these are right up my street. Regarding framing, I think these deserve a single image on their own rather than multiples, but this is just a personal opinion.

What camera / lens combination?
