How is the focus on static things? You may need to do some focus adjustment. Won't help with tracking, but might improve the results when it does.
Static focusing is pretty good provided I use the half press shutter method. Probably no sharper than the K5 ii but as the detail from the sensor is better it probably makes the final image better. I'm pretty sure the focusing of the lens is pretty well spot on, if I let the camera auto focus on a subject I cant improve it by tweaking the focus ring.
My real gripe is a cant get the back button to work as I think it should with birds in flight.

sorted now - went for a k-3 from MPB in the end.

Cheers.
How are you getting on with it, are you ahving fun? I bought a K3 ii the other day and I'm delighted except I dont think the AF is as good at tracking birds as my k5 iis was. Regards David

Are you using the camera shake reduction or the lens image stabilisation?

Best to use one or the other. If you use both they start to fight each other!

All the best, bob.
Hi Bob, I've tried both but not at same time, if back button is used the lens shake reduction doesnt work anyway because it needs the shutter half press to trigger it. I've been shooting at 1/1250 second so altough shake reduction may help I dont think it would be critical. The Sigma lens can be set to pan mode but it doenst seem to help either.

I am struggling to get sharp images of birds in flight with my recently purchased K3 ii. I know it can focus sharply but my BIF photos dont seem as sharp as what my K5 iis produced with the same Sigma 150-500 lens attached. I thought I would try using the rear focus button but the camera struggles to stay locked on the subject. I had a Little Egret in flight pressed and held the back button, the camera focused on it fine but as soon as I started shooting the focus swapped to the wooded area behind. I held the back button all the time the camera and was shooting and it was set to continuos AFC, Continuos shooting M, AF Select Expanded (M). I've tried other settings with very little luck. I thought if the AF button was held then the shutter release had no effect on focus but am I wrong. I have also tried AF2 in button customizing but I still cant get the camera to maintain focus on a BIF. I seem to get better results with the half press shutter and then shoot AFC, but even then I dont think my images are as sharp as the K5 iis produced. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

The other thing to do David, is to apply the NR selectively. You use PSE so you can create a NR layer with a mask. Using the paintbrush tool you can "paint in" areas of the photo where you want the NR applied, and leave other areas untouched.

I find this method far superior to a blanket NR applied to the whole picture. It prevents softening the image where NR is not needed,
Blankets, masks and layers will have to wait until I have time to watch learn and try. Hang on a minute I dont seem to have much in my calender maybe I will try all the Black Magic buttons in Photoshop Elements. It will be a steep learning curve but I've nothing to lose.
Conditions were far from ideal today but with my 150-500 mm Sigma attached I got some pretty reasonable results. Our local church was shot in poor light 1-2 miles distance at 500mm. The Dove was shot through a kitchen window Comment Image

Thanks to everyone for your excellent advice it has both educated and reassured me. I'm using Adobe PSE 2021 and find RAW noise reduction is adequate for my needs especially now I know I’m expecting too much from a K3 ii and high ISO files. I’ve set the max ISO to 6400 and am trying not to use the camera above 3200 ISO since then the images are much better. Hopefully if the grey skies go away I can get some photos worth posting.
Thanks again

Hope I'm not going too far off the original topic but as I usually shoot in RAW which in camera settings have an effect on RAW files. Any advice gratefully recieved.

Hi All
After the announcement of the K3 iii delay I decided it would be a long time before second hand K3 ii's came down in price so I took the plunge and bought one from ParkCameras. Just under 12000 clicks on the clock. Ordered yesterday afternoon and arrived 10am this morning, it appears in excellent condition. Except an annoying dust fleck on sensor but I eventually got rid of it with just a blower so didnt need to touch the sensor. I havent tried it in anger yet as the weather here has been grey n grim so I hope to go out tomorrow. I bought it to go on my Sigma 150-500 but I think it will make an excellent landscape camera. I've about got to grips with the settings plus the fact it has lost some buttons but gained dozens of functions/settings more than my K5ii/iis.
Images so far have been good but more noise at 6400 ISO and above than I had hoped. Some Youtubers suggest turning off Auto high ISO noise reduction, they say using custom settings helps. Anyone know if thats true?
