Seriously though, I sound very anti Pentax sometimes but at the end of the day I much prefer the files from my Pentax gear and it's what I take out with me 90% of the time ... just wish it was 100%
I'm impress that gives me inspiration to look more towards a K3 probably a good second hand K3ii as that would be more in my price range. You have a knack with dragon flies that I haven't mastered yet. They move too erratically for me. New Year's Resolution. Must practice more.

I sold my K-5IIs (always said I would keep it no matter what as the IQ was outstanding IMO) a few months after buying the K-1 because in crop mode it basically IS a 15mp K-5IIs with a few more toys (Astrotracer, pixel shift, slightly better autofocus etc) plus you get the added bonus of full frame (superb IQ) at the turn of a knob..

Unfortunately full frame is where the K-1 falls down if you do birds in flight, airshows and certain wildlife because although the autofocus and tracking are marginally better than previous models the buffer and fps are truly terrible so I normally end up putting it into crop mode where they both improve somewhat ... but then if what you do 99% of the time is fast moving subjects you may as well keep the K-5IIs (or move over to another make).

Given what you are shooting personally I would wait for the K-3III or if that turns out to be too much money a used K-3II.
Thanks for the very frank and helpful reply. I wonder have you or anyone had experience using a K3ii for birds in flight if so how good is its AF when tracking a bird?

I'm thinking of trading up from my K5iis and K5ii to a K1 or K1ii second hand, or new depending on budget at the time.
Before I do I would like some user in the field opinions of the cameras capabilities.
1) In particlular its wildlife capabilties in good and poor light.
2) How good is the auto focus when photographing birds in flight, animals on the move. Is it better than a K5iis
3) Will my Sigma AF 150-500 / 5,0-6,3 APO DG OS HSM work with it, do I need an adapter ring, will the image be cropped by much?
4) What is the general image quality like in comparison to a K5iis, is it worth the trade up expense.

I signed up to Pro last year, and have not noticed many changes except I have a vague feeling that there seems to be fewer people using it now.

I received and email yesterday with a notice of Flickr Pro membership going up in price with immediate effect.

We’re writing to inform you that effective today, the price of Flickr Pro subscriptions has increased to:

1 month: £6.49, VAT inclusive
3 month: £16.99, VAT inclusive
1 year: £55.88, VAT inclusive
2 year: £109.88, VAT inclusive

I paid my annual subscription in early January, but it is now getting too expensive and Flickr's future is looking a bit shaky, so I don't think I'll be renewing in 2021.
Agreed. I'd rather wait and see if they do a 25% off at the increased price for any of the 'sale' times, rather than bumping my subscription to 2 years right now. Similarly, I paid in December, so have 11 months left or thereabouts, but it's not a comforting email to receive. Glad I have all my photos saved and backed up but might start looking into other available options...
Yes I too renewed early January and was peeved then there was quite an increase in price from last year. Not sure what I will do next year as at just under a £1 a week I could justify the cost but now I'm not sure. Waiting for a 25% voucher from Flickr well thats one of the longest shots I know of, maybe I ought to start gambling.

What's gone wrong with it? Generally a PC crash does not cause a loss of data unless the hard drive has totally died.
The harddrive survived but when the PC crashed I was working on a project for someone, fortunatley the project was backed up on a hard drive but when I needed to add more photos it was easiest to access them from Flickr. I have had time since to recover a lot from the hard drive and have now got a spare PC I had running as I would like. The failed PC had a motherboard failure and is not worth repairing despite being only 3 years old.

Flickr has been much improved in the last year, its cleaner and much quicker to access and for nearly a year all my bulk uploads have gone without a hitch. I can upload videos and 50 plus images at a time without any drop outs so I'm happy, except the price which is now best part of £50 a touch dear but it is advert free and unlimited storage.

Hi I can thoroughly recommend the Slave Extraflash
I have the Extraflash and have found it extremely useful. I mainly take landscape and wildlife so I don't have anything other than the built in flash, this device positioned thoughtfully can fill in nicely. I bought mine when they were on offer in 2010 and were only £5.00. Unfortunately they aren't available anymore. Mines been through the wars dropped many times but still works. Anybody who doesn't want to fork out a fortune on flash gear go for it, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.
Its a bargain at £10 including delivery.
Regards David

Is Flickr Dying?

No, it's just pining for the fjords!

Seriously: There are many alternatives to Flickr, including SmugMug (which I don't use but is well patronised) and Pbase (which I do).

Use these types of cloud services as a back-up to your own back-ups, and to display those images / galleries you are happy to make public.
Thanks for the pointers and yes all I want is an easy way of sharing albums and video as I used to be able with Flickr but their up-loader is just awful. So I'm looking for an alternative all my photos and documents are automatically backed up to hard drives so backup isn't the reason I use online storage, its just to share my photos easily. I've looked at your images on Pbase some smashing photos on there and its quick to respond, I will have to have a serious look at Pbase and Smugmug. I'm not adverse to paying a bit for a good service but from what I see the payers on Flickr seem to be getting an equally bad service me a free user.
