Hi Dan,
PM sent about the transfer.

Hi Josh,
Thanks of taking this up, but it looks like Dan is also on the case

IT departments – don’t you just love them … But at least yours actually move on with things, just wish ours was so eager.

Hi,

I work at Magezine Publishing, and we are hoping to have a full resolution to this issue very shortly. I can only apologise that the PDF magazines are unavailable. We are aware of the issue(s), but unfortunately only became fully aware of them, after the Pentax User Plus system became available.

Thanks

Josh
Josh,

Has any thought been given to those of use who did not request a refund when the magazine finished? My membership is still current to 31 July 2011, any chance of converting that into a User Plus membership?

Regards,
Dave

blimey it's only £9.99
I don’t think anyone is objecting to the amount, as evidenced by the number of us who thought it not worthwhile asking for a refund, personally I just assumed that the money would go some way to funding the site (and if I recall correctly there was talk of some improvements to the site which would compensate for the loss of the magazine). But it does seem a bit much when those of us who have contributed financially to the site for several years are then expected to pay again for something we have already paid for.

I think at the very least anyone who still had a current/active subscription should have been automatically made a User Plus member. As a good will gesture they probably should have made all subscribers Plus members.

I hope this has all been an oversight because it has left me disappointed with the way things have been handled.

I renewed my subscription to the magazine just before it was cancelled; my profile still shows 31 July as the end of my current subscription. As I never asked for a refund could this count as my membership fee for the Pentax User Plus?
I would think it’s only fair that it should as I feel reluctant to pay twice.

I would have to go with a DA* 400mm (f4 maybe?) and the DA* Tele-converters that were on the roadmap some time ago – I still can’t understand why they were dropped.

Mine is a Manfrotto focusing rail – I bought it months ago and haven’t got round to using it yet.

New firmware released on 16/2/2011 for the following:
58 AF-2 … Version 2.0.
58 AF-1 … Version 3.0.
50 AF-1 … Version 2.0.
48 AF-1 … Version 3.0.

Updated my 58 AF-2 and haven’t found any problems.

According to Amazon its not for Pentax – “Lowepro Flipside 400 AW Backpack for DSLR Outfit for Canon 550D, 500D, 1000D, Nikon D3000, Samsung NX10, PL1, Panasonic G2, Sony Alpha” looks like I will have to send my Lowepro back

OK I am getting a bit confused with that. I got 1.02 in my K-5 but where and how can I see the rest and can I install the Firmware twice anyway?
I checked the link but as soon as they start with hex etc I am totally lost (sign of my age:twisted
I would imagine this depends upon whether the camera recognises the sub version numbers as part of the decision to allow an update.
You just load the firmware in the normal way. When you switch the camera on with the menu button pressed and the new firmware on the SD card it just shows both the current firmware on the camera as version 1.02 and the firmware on the card as version 1.02 and asks if you want to load the new firmware. Select YES and it will load the newer version. The camera never displays the version numbers past the second decimal point.

I don’t know if it would reload the older sub version over the top of the new one though.

My 58-1 finally gave up last week, the zoom had stopped working a long time ago (tried everything to fix it but no luck). It stopped working in PTTL mode the flash would always fire at full power. Auto and manual were ok but intermittent, after testing it a K-5 and K-10 decided it was a fault with the hotshoe communication, so I ordered a 58 AF-2 from SRS.

There is a £84 premium for the AF-2 over the AF-1 but I am hoping the claimed improvements in zoom motor, flash tube and metal base would be worth it.

The new metal base is a very big improvement over the old model – it just slips straight on and off and locks positively into place, the old model was difficult to remove and had to be wiggled/twisted to remove it. I was always afraid I would damage the camera hotshoe or the flash base (guess I probably did :roll

Maybe I got a ‘Friday afternoon’ AF-1 but the AF-2 seems to be much more dependable.

If you are happy with your AF-1 then I doubt the up-grade is worth it, but I certainly feel a lot more confidant in AF-2 than I ever was with the AF-1.
