Awful. There are much better effects which should be used sparingly, and when they are apt.

Keep trying though.

Perhaps I did. Who knows? Perhaps you had a good one!

I had been thinking about that one too, Matty.

Now I've managed to find a K20/f4 I'm sticking with primes and will buy an FA43.

Just to put a spanner in the works, I never really got on with my 17-70. I was disappointed with it's resolution, particularly with trees, which is now the first thing I look at nowadays. Unfortunately (or not), soon after I got the 17-70 I got a K28/3.5 which stuffed it into the ground. I could hardly bring myself to use the 17-70 after that and sold it, acquiring a K55/1.8 for the longer end, and satisfied my wide ambitions with a Sigma 10-20 instead. I also found the 17-70 not at it's best when wide. But, of course, if you want a zoom for it's convenience, then it's a different question.

Your RAW program (sorry, I haven't read all the thread) will have some default settings. It will apply these at the time of import. You can make these defaults whatever you like, or just start from there to apply whatever you like.

To cut a long story short, I use RAW. When I did take some jpg only shots it disturbed me how much less I could do with them. But some people prefer to have the camera apply the settings, but, to me, that would imply that they change the camera's settings depending on the type of shot or result they require, or that they don't feel they need to. With RAW, you do more of that in post processing. I enjoy that part of the post processing, so it's not a chore, or extra work, for me, as it appears to be for people.

By the way, I don't want to kick off the RAW vs jpg argument again.

That's a reasonable price for a K30. I'm tempted. But only to compare it with my K28, and then to keep the one I prefer. Though I'm saving for something else, but not a K3. I'm surprised Ks are cheaper as, in my experience, they are at least the same, though my K20 was a reasonable price.

My best ever buy was a K55/1.8 at 25 euros.
