What type of UV protector do you have on?

It had an Ultra Slim UV filter on the front.
I was wondering if Pete might have had white gloves on, they may have been enough to provide the whitish vignetting, if they were only just encroaching on the frame. Bit of a long shot though.

Believe it or not, that came out in 2008.

Well I wondered if that was the case but the 5D MKII was released very late 2008 wasn't it?
I think you may be right. Therefore Benjamin's Awards are a sham! Let us pelt him with rotten eggs forthwith.

It fits all the Sigma lenses listed here. And probably a fair few others, by all sorts of makes, just not the ones you're trying, unfortunately. It would probably work a treat with a DA*300mm.

This is a 2x converter, made by Pentax, for Pentax lenses, but I'm sure you'd have even more trouble getting your lenses on it!

It's certainly different to my Sigma TC - that black ring that protrudes ahead of the front element on the first pic is very different to mine and does seem to be what is causing you problems.

Was this brand new? Just wondering in case it is something you can pull out - extra support whilst it's being shipped/stored maybe???
Well, it might screw in, does it turn at all? It could be that it's been unscrewed a bit at some point. :

What lenses are you trying to mount to it? Just wondering if the rear elements of those lenses are fouling on the front element of the TC. :

Hello Bluewhistle,

Your mention of "a flash gun I despised until I figured how to use it!!" strikes a chord.

Where or how did you learn how to use it?

Cherrylicious in dire need of understanding how her very expensive toy works. ^.^

P.S.: I don't have a manual for it. Well, I do have one but it's in German. Long story. o_O
Mattmatic's guide that Bluewhistle mentions can be bought here. Lots of members here swear by it.

It sounds to me more like flare, but as John says, an example pic would help. Did you have the lens hood fitted? Snow can cause flare as easily as a very bright sky.
