Hi Shane,

I seem to recall this getting a reasonable write up when it came out, but I think they (Amateur Photographer) said slides proved a bit difficult for it, negative film was okay.

But the proviso was that you get what you pay for, and image quality and dynamic range is better with more expensive scanners.

Several years ago I bought a cheap Jenoptic film scanner. Wish I hadn't bothered. But at the time I couldn't afford anything better.

If he was asking that price, I would say you'd do better getting a new K100D for about £300.

Although, having said that, a quick browse only really shows K100D Supers, which are about an extra £60. I'm sure there would still be stock of the K100D about though.

As I said before, I use the Sigma 105mm (non-DG version) and love it. Very solid build, good results at all apertures. I can't see that the DG version would be any different.

I don't understand this compulsion to buy new lenses.
Somebody has to.

I can't understand why anybody would choose a new Sigma lens when they could have one of the best Pentax macros for less money.
Well, no that's true. But then I got my Sigma secondhand for £90 incl. a three year warranty. Also, if you really want any lens, it may be worth spending a bit more to have one sooner, rather than waiting for one to come up on ebay later.

I think you'll find they're all excellent lenses, and your eventual purchase will be based more on what one you can find in stock.

I didnt realise that you had to be spot on with grammer and punctuation to get a point across or have a question answered.
Good grammar and punctuation help make your questions and comments clearer. It's hard enough to get messages to come across right online anyway, people can easily take things the wrong way, so the clearer and easier it is to read a message the better.

You're also more likely to be taken seriously, and have your questions answered, if you take the time to make your points clearly. Everyone makes the odd typo now and again though, so you don't have to be spot on every time.

To me, that's why punctuation and grammar are important.

Also, and I'm just making a general comment here, not directing this at you, I (and I would guess many others too, not just on this forum) get irritated by the incorrect use of "there'", "their" and "they're", and of "to", "too" and "two". I don't know what they're teaching them in schools these days...

Don't you just love shop assistants who have no idea about something but still feel qualified to offer advice.

Oh, and in case it's of use to your DIY tinkerings Archivist, I have used approximately 80 feet of extension on the cable with no problem. Thread here...
