I have the sensor shake every time it switches on, I haven't compared the amount of dust I get on there now with the amount I would get if I didn't have this setting enabled, so don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I would guess that it does for the less sticky dust. I could be wrong.

Basically, I'm more than happy with the way things are, and you're not. We obviously have different expectations! I can't remember if you had a DSLR before your K10D - if you did, how do things compare to your experiences with that, dust-wise?

I think it's fair to say that you're going to get dust on the sensor from time to time, but compared to my old *istD, the dust on my K10D's sensor is minimal. I use to have to wet wipe the *istD every week or so, the K10D get a rocket blast once a fortnight at most, often not for a month or more. I take that to show that the anti-dust system in the K10D makes a BIG difference.

I would happily recommend Hawke optics 'Endurance' 8x42 bins, we stock them at work and they are £149.95, so just about spot on for your budget. Waterproof and focus down to under 6 feet, so good for dragonflies, butterflies, your shoes etc.

Image stabilised 8x25s are all well and good, but it would be like comparing an f/2.8 lens with an f/5.6 one. For dusk and dawn, you really need a larger objective lens.

Ah, for me that's a shame, because we have an account with Intro2020 at work and I saved a packet on my DA*300 when I used my staff discount.

I like all three, good use of the fisheye in one and two (prefer one, but number two's an interesting shot, and like George says, fantastic sky). Number three would improve (in my eyes) by being leveled up, that ship's struggling uphill at the moment.

Brian, you know you'll be welcome to come and say hello in here anytime you want, be a shame to see you go! If I was after anything else I'd definitely jump at the chance, especially as I'm up in Edinburgh next week for a few days, could have come and collected it.

What Nikon have you gone for?

Dan

P.S. Interesting to see that most of the people who have recently changed brands have gone for Nikon. Certainly what I'd choose.

George's suggestion of the judge being able to write a hidden critique as the week goes by, which then appears once the competition is finished, seems an excellent idea.
Well, I seem to recall it was an idea well recieved in July when I had it! I sent a suggestion to the powers-that-be, as follows:

Hopefully this will make sense, let me know if not.

With the new competition gallery, we obviously have a 'comments' option for each image, which John Riley used for his summing up of each entry in his test comp. This was well received, as we can now see what image the comments relate to much easier.

However, it was noted that as many judges like to critique throughout the week, rather than trying to do it all in one go, it would now mean a lot of cutting and pasting to get the comments onto the respective photo.

I made the suggestion that it would be good if the judge could enter comments at any time whilst the competition was open, but that these comments wouldn't be visible to anyone else until the judge 'published the results'.

I'm aware that there is a public/private type of field associated with comments, in these reports at least, so wondered if this could be used? So all the comments would be private to the judge (the person who would start the thread/competition) until they 'published results' (made the comments public).

There seemed to be a general concensus that this was a good idea, it's not just me giving you extra work.

Possible/not possible?

Dan

To which the reply from Richard Housham was:

Hi Daniel we will add this to the upgrade list for later.
Richard

How much later, I don't know!

Dan

P.S. George, it's okay, I realise imitation is the best form of flattery.
